29 Sunset is a bus line operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. The line connects the Richmond District and Sunset District to the city's southern neighborhoods through to the Bayview. [3] It is a key cross-town route.
From its northern terminus at Lincoln Boulevard and Bowley, the 29 Sunset runs down Bowley to Camino Del Mar and 25th Avenue. The route traverses Golden Gate Park via Crossover Drive, then runs on Lincoln Way to Sunset. After running on Sunset, the line turns onto Lake Merced Boulevad, then Winston before running past the Stonestown Galleria station and turning onto 19th Avenue. After passing San Francisco State University station, buses make a dogleg onto Crespi to serve Parkmerced before returning to 19th and continuing on Holloway. The line splits with directional runs on Junipero Sera northbound and Beverly southbound to Garfield. The line continues onto Grafton and then turns on Plymouth to Ocean, where it runs in parallel to the K Ingleside and passes Balboa Park station.[ citation needed ]
It crosses Mission Street after turning onto Persia, which becomes Mansell, and the 29 turns left onto San Bruno then right on Paul Avenue to cross under Highway 101. It passes the Gilman/Paul station before turning onto Keith and Fitzgerald, where trips terminate. Westbound/northbound trips run from there, turning around via Fitzgerald, Hawes, Gilman, Giants, Interson, Hawes, and Gilman before running the reverse route.[ citation needed ]
The 29 Sunset was established on January 27, 1982, as part of the implementation of Muni's five-year plan. [4] Service was rerouted off of Mission and onto Ocean as part of route restructuring in September 2015. [5] Plans to implement rapid service along the route were put forward in the 2020s. [6] [7]
The N Judah is a hybrid light rail/streetcar line of the Muni Metro system in San Francisco, California. The line is named after Judah Street that it runs along for much of its length, named after railroad engineer Theodore Judah. It links downtown San Francisco to the Cole Valley and Sunset neighborhoods. The line provides rail access to Golden Gate Park. It is the busiest line in the Muni Metro system, serving an average of 41,439 weekday passengers in 2013. It was one of San Francisco's streetcar lines, beginning operation in 1928, and was partially converted to modern light-rail operation with the opening of the Muni Metro system in 1980. While many streetcar lines were converted to bus lines after World War II, the N Judah remained a streetcar line due to its use of the Sunset Tunnel.
The L Taraval is a hybrid light rail/streetcar line of the Muni Metro system in San Francisco, California, mainly serving the Parkside District. Since 2021, the line has been suspended and replaced by buses until the end of 2024 for an improvement project along Taraval Street.

The 1.96-mile (3.15 km) line, which runs between Mission Street and Lombard Street, has dedicated center bus lanes and nine stations. It was built as part of the $346 million Van Ness Improvement Project, which also included utility replacement and pedestrian safety features. Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit is used by several San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) lines including the 49 Van Ness–Mission, as well as three Golden Gate Transit routes.
44 O'Shaughnessy is a bus line operated by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. The route and street which it serves are named in honor of Michael O'Shaughnessy, former city engineer who was instrumental in the development of Muni.
Duboce and Church is a light rail stop on the Muni Metro J Church and N Judah lines, located in the Duboce Triangle neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Just east of the station, the two lines enter the Market Street subway. The stop originally opened with the 22 Fillmore line in 1895. The station has complex layout with two side platforms in the middle of Duboce Avenue for the N Judah, one side platform in the middle of Church Street for northbound J Church trains entering the Market Street subway, and two mini-high platforms at the subway portal which provides access to both lines for people with disabilities.
Taraval and Sunset is a light rail stop on the Muni Metro L Taraval line, located in the Parkside neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The station opened with the second section of the L Taraval line on January 14, 1923.
