2022

The 38th Guadalajara International Film Festival took place from June 3 to 9, 2023, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Heroic received the Mezcal Award while Costa Rican film I Have Electric Dreams won the Best Ibero-American Film award. [2]

Contents

The festival opening ceremony took place at Telmex Auditorium and was hosted by Andrés Zuno. At the ceremony, Raúl Padilla López was honored for his work in the festival. Padilla López served as president for the festival until his death in April 2023. Mexican actress Arcelia Ramírez and Italian film editor Roberto Perpignani received special achievement awards. [3] American film Asteroid City , directed by Wes Anderson, was the festival's opening film. [4]

Another Forever is a 2016 Brazilian drama film directed by Juan Zapata, co–written by Juan Zapata and Daniela Escobar, and starring Daniela Escobar, Marlon Moreno, Peter Ketnath and Barbara Scolaro, in lead roles. Originally titled Butterflies, the name was changed to Another Forever in May, 2016. Diógenes is a 2023 Quechua-language drama film written and directed by Leonardo Barbuy La Torre. It was selected to compete in the Zonazine section at the 26th Málaga Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on March 14, 2023. The film won the Silver Biznaga for Best Ibero-American Film, and Barbuy La Torre won for Best Director. It is a co-production between Peru, Colombia and France.

David Zonana is a Mexican filmmaker known for his films regarding social issues, primarily featuring amateur actors. Zonana has directed several short films and two feature films, Mano de Obra (2019) and Heroico (2023), which have received critical acclaim.

Spanish documentary film This Excessive Ambition served as the festival's opening film, screened at the opening ceremony at Telmex Auditorium. Directed by Santos Bacana, Rogelio González and Cristina Trenas, the film follows the tour Sin cantar ni afinar by Spanish rapper C. Tangana. Yorgos Lanthimos anthology film Kinds of Kindness served as the closing film.
