The 39th Gawad Urian Awards or Ika-39 na Gawad Urian was held on June 22, 2016 at the Kia Theatre. They honored the best Filipino films for the year 2015. It was also aired live at Cinema One channel.

Contents

Nominations were announced on May 17. Da Dog Show, Honor Thy Father and Taklub received the most nominations with ten. [1] [2] [3]

Taklub won Best Film, its only win in the night. Heneral Luna won most of the awards with four. The Natatanging Gawad Urian was given to Romy Vitug. [4] [5]

Vincent Abenojar De Jesus is a Filipino composer, librettist, musical scorer, and musical director for theater, television, and film. He is also a writer, lyricist, actor, singer, and educator. The Luna Awards are awards given annually by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) to recognize the outstanding achievements of the Filipino film industry. The first awards were presented in 1983 in Pasay. It is considered to be the Philippine counterpart of the Oscars. It used to be known as the FAP Awards until in 2005 when it got its current name. Since 2007, the Academy started holding simple awards ceremonies due to lack of government funding and reduction of its share from MMFF earnings. Bernardo was awarded the Gawad Urian Award for his Best Supporting Actor role for the film, Invisible at the 39th Gawad Urian Awards in 2016 and was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2016 FAP Awards in the Philippines. Bernardo died on March 8, 2018, following a tumor in his pancreas.

The 41st Gawad Urian Awards or Ika-41 na Gawad Urian was held on June 14, 2018 at ABS-CBN Vertis Tent. They honored the best Filipino films for the year 2017. It aired live at Cinema One channel.

The 42nd Gawad Urian Awards was held on June 18, 2019 at the UPFI Film Center at the University of the Philippines. The best Philippine films for the year 2018 were honored in the event.

The 43rd Gawad Urian Awards was held on November 10, 2020. The best Philippine films for the year 2019 were honored in the event. Nominations were announced on August 27.
