The 37th Gawad Urian Awards or Ika-37 na Gawad Urian were held on June 17, 2014, at the Dolphy Theater in Quezon City. They honored the best Filipino films for the year 2013. [1] [2]

Contents

Nominations were announced on April 29, 2014, at a press conference. [3] [4] Rody Vera received triple nominations in the Best Screenplay category. Angel Aquino, Adjani Arumpac and Corinne de San Jose received double nominations in Best Supporting Actress, Best Documentary and Best Sound respectively. On the other hand, Armando Lao received the most number of nominations with four. [5]

Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan dominated the ceremony which received 4 awards, including Best Film. [6] The Natatanging Gawad Urian was supposed to be given to Mike de Leon but he declined to receive the award. [7] This is only the second time in which this special award was not given, the first being in 1989. Instead, they paid tribute to late National Artist for Film Gerardo de Leon. [8]

The Gawad Urian Awards are annual film awards in the Philippines presented since 1977 by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, a film critic organization composed of critics, writers, and scholars. It is the regarded as the highest award for a film given by critics in the Philippines and is seen as the counterpart of the United States' New York Film Critics Circle.

Vincent Abenojar De Jesus is a Filipino composer, librettist, musical scorer, and musical director for theater, television, and film. He is also a writer, lyricist, actor, singer, and educator. He attended the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music, and majored in piano and voice. He was a member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association from 1983 to 2020.

Maria Theresa Rosario Garcia Nayve-Israel, known professionally as Rio Locsin, is a Filipino actress. Rina Marie Padilla Raymundo-Poturnak, known professionally as Ina Raymundo, is a Filipino actress. She is best known for her appearance on the 1995 San Miguel Beer's television advertisement "Sabado Nights", and its 2017 remake. Raymundo was nominated for the Gawad Urian Award for Best Actress for the film Tuhog (2001) where she portrayed a victim of incestuous rape. Rodolfo "Rody" Austria Lacap is a Filipino cinematographer. He started as a projectionist before becoming a photographer and cinematographer. His work in films like Itim (1976) and Oro, Plata, Mata (1982) earned him awards for best cinematography.
