The 6th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival was held from the 9th of July, 2010 until the 18th of July, 2010 in Metro Manila, Philippines. [2]
The 6th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival and Competition held in Metro Manila was hosted jointly by Cinemalaya Foundation, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Econolink Investments. The film entries were categorized as full-length feature and short films. [3]
The prize money and awards included ₱200,000 and the Balanghai Trophy for the outstanding full feature film and ₱100,000 and a Balanghai Trophy for the best short film. The best director category carried a purse of ₱300,000 and the Balanghai Trophy.
Films directed by big names like Mario O"Hara's Ang Paglilitis ni Bonifacio, Mark Meily's Donor, Joselito Altarejos's Pink Halo-Halo, Joel Lamangan's Sigwa and Gil Portes's Two Funerals participated in the festival. Films by Filipino directors having directed three full-length commercial feature films also took part as strong contenders. [3]

The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is a film festival in the Philippines held annually during the month August at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex and various cinemas. Its aim is the development and promotion of Filipino independent films. The film festival is organized by the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. with the support of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Econolink Investments, Inc.

The 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival was successfully held from July 26 to August 4, 2013 in Metro Manila, Philippines. This year's theme is "Synergy of the Senses", which makes the entries to deliver mature content and provocative themes. The opening film is Jazz in Love by Baby Ruth Villarama, a documentary about a Filipino gay man who waits for the arrival of his German boyfriend. The closing film is Joel Lamangan's Burgos which stars Lorna Tolentino as Edita Burgos, the crusading mother of missing activist Jonas. The winners were announced on August 4 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Jerrold Tarog's Sana Dati and Hannah Espia's Transit won top film honors in the awards night.
The Bit Player is a 2013 Filipino socio-realist drama-comedy film by Jeffrey Jeturian. The film stars Vilma Santos as Loida Malabanan, who spends her days dreaming of her big break while working with the country’s best small screen actors. The film competed under the Directors Showcase sidebar of 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. It topped the box office in all four venues of said festival. The film was released in mainstream theaters by Star Cinema on August 14, as part of their 20th Anniversary offering.
Transit is a 2013 Filipino independent drama film written and directed by Hannah Espia. The film follows a story about a single father who is forced to hide his children from immigration police in Israel after the Israeli government decides to deport children of immigrant workers. It is Espia's full-length debut film. It was mostly shot in Israel. The film competed under the New Breed section of Cinemalaya 2013. The film won Best Film, directing, acting and other technical awards.
Irma Santonil Adlawan is a Filipino stage, television and film actress. She is dubbed as the “Queen of Independent Cinema” for her acting prowess and exceptional contribution to Philippine film industry.
Joselito Altarejos is an accomplished Filipino filmmaker having won several prestigious awards in the Philippines as well as internationally. He is well known for his ground-breaking openly gay-themed film features like The Man in the Lighthouse, Antonio's Secret, Kambyo, The Game of Juan's Life, Pink Halo-Halo, Unfriend, The Commitment. His 2017 film Tale of the Lost Boys was filmed in Taiwan. His films were celebrated at international LGBT film festivals. With his newly formed production, 2076 Kolektib, his ultimate goal is to create and produce multimedia contents that will arouse, educate, and inspire his audiences to become more vigilant and conscious of the social issues and challenges they face in the age of yet another strongman rule. In the true spirit of independent filmmaking, Altarejos’ decades of experience and continued quest to acquire more profound knowledge and creative enrichment is geared towards marshaling the sentient and jolting the uninformed – while still very much adhered to forming the Brockanian concept of the Great Filipino Audience. Altarejos has also worked for Filipino television doing series and anthologies including the long-running TV series Legacy on the GMA Network. In most of his television work, he is credited as Jose Altarejos and Jay Altajeros.
The 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, also billed as Cinemalaya X was held from August 1–10 of 2014 in Metro Manila, Philippines. The achievements of Cinemalaya over the past ten years are summed up in the festival's theme: A Decade of Connecting Dimensions. The theme highlights Cinemalaya as a flourishing network of individuals, groups and institutions with a common goal of developing and promoting Filipino independent filmmaking.

The Commitment is a 2014 Filipino film by director Joselito Altarejos. It was premiered as an entry to the Directors Showcase during the 10th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival held in 2014. The film went on to win the Best Film title in the festival.
The 15thCinemalaya Independent Film Festival was held from August 2–13, 2019 in Metro Manila, Philippines. A total of ten full-length features and ten short films competed. The festival was opened by the film Ang Hupa by Lav Diaz and its closing film was Mina-Anud by Kerwin Go.
