7 Sons of Soul is an American gospel music group from Washington, D.C., who are currently signed to Soul World Entertainment. The group consist of six members, and the three singers who formed the foundation are Deonte Gray, Cliff Jones, and Dave "DaveyBoy" Lindsey, and they added the other three instrumentalist to the group in Paul "Buggy" Edwards, Nathaniel Fields, and Sam Kendrick. The first album, 7 Sons of Soul, was released in 2004 by Verity Records. This was the only record released with the label. The album was their breakthrough release on the Billboard magazine charts, by placing on the Gospel Albums charts. Their second album, Witness, released in 2007 by Zomba Records. This album also charted on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.

Background

The Washington, D.C.-based group, 7 Sons of Soul was formed in 2004 by Deonte Gray and Cliff Jones, and they did this by adding singer Dave "DaveyBoy" Lindsey, and three other instrumentalist to the group, Paul "Buggy" Edwards on drums, Nathaniel Fields on bass guitar, and Sam Kendrick on keys. [1]

History

The group released their first album, 7 Sons of Soul, on March 23, 2004 by Verity Records. [2] [3] This would be their breakthrough released on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart at No. 24. [4] Paul Poulton, indicating in a nine out of ten review by Cross Rhythms magazine, responds, "The quartet is modern, but not enough to alienate traditional gospel lovers." [5] Their second album, Witness, came out on April 17, 2007 by Zomba Records. [2] [6] This would chart on the same chart, but this time at No. 43. [4] Paul Poulton, mentioning in a ten out of ten review at Cross Rhythms, recognizes, "The Sons have hit the mark fairly and squarely in the centre, with this their second CD." [7]

Tribute Records is an American gospel music record label established in 1990. The label was co-founded by jazz musician and former pro basketball player Ben Tankard and George King. King owned Nashville based Diadem Music Group which produced Contemporary Christian music. Diadem's signature artist Bob Carlisle is best known for his hit song "Butterfly Kisses". Tribute became the urban contemporary gospel division of Diadem and home to several gospel music stars, most notably Tankard, Yolanda Adams, Twinkie Clark of The Clark Sisters and others. Tankard was executive producer and music producer on most of the early Tribute releases and his vision was to develop artists and pioneer a new smooth genre of music he coined as "gospeljazz". He featured Yolanda Adam's jazzy vocals on the album and concept video single " You Bring Out The Best In Me " on his 1994 release "Play Me In Your Key". The jazzy collaborations of Tankard and Adams produced major crossover success and brought the name of Tribute Records to the forefront. Office Depot produced a gospel style " Taking Care Of Business " commercial national ad campaign that was centered on Tribute Records, Tankard, and Adams and ran from 1994-1996.

He self-released We Are One in 2011. This album was listed on the Top Gospel Albums chart, along with the Heatseekers Albums chart. His fourth album, God Chaser, was released in 2013 on Verity. The album reached the Gospel Albums chart, as well as the Billboard 200. Murphy is pastor of the dReam Center Church of Atlanta, which he founded.

DeWayne Lamont Woods is an American gospel musician. He started his music career, in 2003, with the release of, The Poets, The Psalms, and the Psalmists, that was self-released. His second album, Introducing DeWayne Woods & When Singers Meet, was released in 2006, with Verity.This album would chart on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. His third album, My Life's Lyric, was released in 2010 on Verity and Jive Records. The album charted on the aforementioned chart. He released, Life Lessons, in 2015 with Soul Therapy Music Group. This album would chart on the aforementioned chart along with the Independent Albums chart.

Maurette Brown Clark is an American gospel musician. She started her solo music career in 1998 with the release of How I Feel on Verity Records. Her subsequent three album were released by Atlanta International Records, with 2002's By His Grace, 2007's The Dream and 2011's The Sound of Victory. They all charted on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. Clark has also been a member of Richard Smallwood's group, Vision, since its inception in 1996

Joseph W. Pace II is an American gospel musician. He started his music career in 1996, with Colorado Mass Choir. They have released 14 albums with 11 of them charting on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart. Pace has released albums with several record labels including Zomba Records, Verity Records, Alliant Records, Word Records, Epic Records, Integrity Music, Columbia Records, NuSpring Music, Sony Music, and Tyscot Records.

Shari Ann Addison, is an American gospel musician and artist. Shari is the first runner-up on Sunday Best She started her music career, in 2009 with the release of Shari Addison by Verity Records, Zomba Records, and BET Records. This album was her breakthrough on the Billboard magazine charts, which it placed on The Billboard 200 and Gospel Albums charts.

Angelo & Veronica, an American urban contemporary gospel music husband and wife duo who began their recording careers in 1992, are from Boston, Massachusetts. The duo released nine albums with five record labels. Two of those albums charted on the U.S. Billboard Christian Albums chart.
