The 7th Bureau and the 7th Secretariat of the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) were elected by a Session of the 7th Central Committee in the immediate aftermath of the 7th Congress. The 7th Orgburo was elected by the twenty-fourth session of the 7th Central Committee, held on 16 January 1919.

The 7th (extraordinary) Congress of the RSDLP(b), also known as the Extraordinary 7th Congress of the RCP(b), was held between 6–8 March 1918. During this congress the Bolsheviks changed the name of the party to include the word "Communist".

The 18th Central Committee was elected by the 18th National Congress on 15 November 2012, and sat in session until the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2017. The Committee is composed of full members and alternate members. A member has voting rights, while an alternate does not. If a full member is removed from the CC the vacancy is then filled by an alternate member at the next committee plenum — the alternate member who received the most confirmation votes in favour is highest on the order of precedence. To be elected to the Central Committee, a candidate must be a party member for at least five years.
