The 1st Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 3, 2007 at the Akiba 3D Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo. General voting categories had 10 nominations each for Best Lead (actor/actress), Best Supporting (actor/actress), Rookie (actor/actress), Singing, and Personality. Special Achievement, Achievement, and Synergy Awards were selected by the event without nominations. The period of general voting lasted from October 21, 2006 to January 10, 2007.

The 2nd Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 8, 2008, at the UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo, and was broadcast on BS11 on May 4, 2008. The period of general voting lasted from October 20, 2007, to January 15, 2008.

The 3rd Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 7, 2009 at the UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo, and was broadcast on BS11 on May 3, 2009. The period of general voting lasted from October 1, 2008 to January 1, 2009.

The 4th Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 6, 2010 at UDX Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo. It was followed up by a Special Stage Event with the winners on March 28. The period of general voting lasted from Oct 1, 2009 to Jan 1, 2010.

The 5th Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 5, 2011 in Tokyo. The period of general voting lasted from Oct 22, 2010 to Jan 1, 2011. Some awards were given in February, ahead of the ceremony.

The 6th Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 3, 2012.

The 9th Seiyu Awards ceremony was held on March 7, 2015 at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo.

The 11th Seiyu Awards was held on March 18, 2017 at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo. The winners of the Merit Awards, the Kei Tomiyama Award and the Kazue Takahashi Award were announced on February 21, 2017. The winners of the Synergy Award and Kids/Family award was announced on March 14, 2017. The rest of the winners were announced on the ceremony day.

The 12th Seiyu Awards was held on March 3, 2018 at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo. The winners of the Merit Awards, the Kei Tomiyama Award and the Kazue Takahashi Award were announced on February 16, 2018. The rest of the winners were announced on the ceremony day.

The 13th Seiyu Awards was held on March 9, 2019 at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo. The winners of the Merit Awards, the Kei Tomiyama Award, the Kazue Takahashi Award, and the Synergy Award were announced on February 19, 2019. The rest of the winners were announced on the ceremony day. This year, there were four new award categories, which include the Foreign Movie/Series Award, the Game Award, the Influencer Award, and the Most Valuable Seiyu Award.

Yui Fukuo is a Japanese voice actress and basketball player associated with 81 Produce. She is best known for voicing Linze Silhoueska in In Another World with My Smartphone and Yui Akitsuki in Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club and has won two Seiyu Awards.

The 14th Seiyu Awards (声優アワード) were announced on March 7, 2020 by Nippon Cultural Broadcasting. The winners of the Merit Awards, the Kei Tomiyama Award, and the Kazue Takahashi Award, were announced on 18 February 2020. The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at the Bunka Housou Media Plus Hall, but was cancelled during COVID-19 pandemic. The results were instead announced on the Chou! A&G radio program.

Kōdai Sakai is a Japanese voice actor. After watching Rika Matsumoto perform Ash Ketchum, Sakai decided he wanted to be a voice actor, which he did and made his debut in 2013. Some of the major roles Sakai has had since are Mitsumune in The Lost Village, Nobunaga Oda in Nobunaga Teacher's Young Bride, Sakuya Sakuma in A3!, and Shaun in Shadows House.

Reiji Kawashima is a Japanese voice actor affiliated with Aoni Production. He is best known for voicing Fushi in To Your Eternity and Patrick / Ricky in Shadows House.

The 17th Seiyu Awards was held on March 11, 2023, at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo. The winners of the Merit Awards, the Kei Tomiyama Award, the Kazue Takahashi Award, and the Synergy Award were announced on February 21, 2023. The rest of the winners were announced on the ceremony day. Starting this year, "Best Lead Voice Actor," "Best Supporting Voice Actor," and "New Voice Actor" will no longer be separated by gender.
