The A-League All Star Game was an annual soccer match contested by the A-League All Stars team against an invitee club. The All Stars team was made up of selected A-League players. The game is played during the footballing off-season, the first of which was held on 20 July 2013. The All Star Game has not been held since 2014.

Background

On 13 November 2012, it was confirmed that Manchester United would come to Australia and play an all-star team consisting of A-League players. [1] The inaugural A-League All Stars Game took place on 20 July 2013, against Manchester United. The A-League team was picked by an online vote by fans and by the appointed manager. On 20 December 2013, it was confirmed that Juventus would compete against the all-star team for the 2014 game, again hosted in Sydney. [2] There has been no All Stars match since. [3]

Stadium Australia, commercially known as ANZ Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in the Sydney Olympic Park, in Sydney, Australia. The A-League is the highest-level professional men's soccer league in Australia. At the top of the Australian league system, it is the country's primary competition for the sport. The A-League was established in 2004 by Football Federation Australia (FFA) as a successor to the National Soccer League (NSL) and competition commenced in August 2005. The league is currently contested by eleven teams; ten based in Australia and one based in New Zealand. A twelfth team, Macarthur FC, based in Sydney, is scheduled to join the league in the 2020–21 season. It has been officially known since its inception as the Hyundai A-League through a series of sponsorship arrangements with the Hyundai Motor Company.

The 2014 A-League All Stars Game was a football match that took place on 10 August 2014 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, contested between the A-League All Stars and Italian Serie A champions Juventus.

2018 MLS All-Star Game exhibition match between MLS All-Stars and Juventus FC

The 2018 Major League Soccer All-Star Game was the 23rd edition of the annual Major League Soccer All-Star Game. It was held on August 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia and played against Italian club Juventus. The match was tied 1–1 after 90 minutes and was settled in a penalty shoot-out that Juventus won 5–3.

The 2019–20 A-League, also known as the 2019–20 Hyundai A-League for sponsorship reasons, is the 43rd season of national level soccer in Australia, and the 15th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. The regular season commenced on 11 October 2019 and was scheduled to conclude on 26 April 2020, with 29 rounds where each team will play 26 matches and have 3 byes to account for the odd number of teams. The Finals were scheduled to begin on 1 May 2020 and will end with the Grand Final on 16–17 May 2020.
