The A8 Highway is a paved primary trunk road in Zimbabwe running from Bulawayo to Victoria Falls. [1] It is managed by the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA). It is part of the R9 Route, which links Victoria Falls with Beitbridge.
The A8 Highway is part of Zimbabwe's regional road corridor number R9 which runs from the border with Zambia to the border with South Africa. It is also part of Trans-African Highway Network no. 4 (Cairo-Cape Town Highway), which is a route designated to connect Cairo and Cape Town.

A8 is part of the Trans-African Highway 4 which is runs from Cairo through Gaborone to Cape Town. The TAH 4 is 8.861 kilometers long and the A8 covers only 440 km which is only about 5% of the trans-national road corridor. However together with the A7 Highway that runs 110 km from Bulawayo to Plumtree Border Post the Zimbabwean length of the TAH 4 becomes 550 km, which is about 6% of the total trans-national corridor. From Bulawayo the first major junction is at Lupane Turn-off 176 km away. ( 18°56′09″S27°45′52″E / 18.93583°S 27.764572°E ) This right turn is the P10 Road to Lupane Centre. This is the shortest trunk road in the system, only about 5 km long. The P10 Road after Lupane it connects with the P9 Highway.
( 18°56′05″S27°48′33″E / 18.934622°S 27.809029°E ) The P9 Highway runs from here to Nkayi where it continues as P8 Highway to Kwekwe via Silobela. This is the shortest route from Victoria Falls to Harare.
About 51 km from Lupane Turn-off is Halfway House, 230 km from Bulawayo and 210 km before Victoria Falls. ( 18°43′47″S27°22′15″E / 18.729815°S 27.37087°E )
24 km from Halfway House is Lubimbi Turn Off to the right. This road eventually reaches Magunje and the A1 Highway to Chirundu. A 4x4 truck is recommended for this route.
About 59 km from Halfway House is the Dete-Kamativi crossroads. The left lead is the Dete Road 17 km to Dete and the right is Kamativi Road to Kamativi Mine 29 km away. About 25 km on this road is the Binga Turn-off signposted. From this point Binga is about 155 km away.
Hwange is 105 km from Halfway House, 335 km from Bulawayo and 105 km before Victoria Falls. ( 18°20′49″S26°30′14″E / 18.347021°S 26.504002°E ) In this town are Hwange Colliery Mine and Hwange Thermal Power Station.
Victoria Falls is 105 km from Hwange and about 3 km from the border with Zambia where the A8 Highway ends. The P14 Highway to Kazungula runs west for 69 km to the Border Post with Botswana and Namibia. At Kazungula transit vehicles from Botswana and Namibia into Zambia are transported by a bridge across the Zambezi River.

Matabeleland North is a province in western Zimbabwe. With a population of 827,645 as of the 2022 census, it is the country's second-least populous province, after Matabeleland South, and is the country's least densely populated province. Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South were established in 1974, when the original Matabeleland Province was bifurcated. In 1997, the province lost territory when the city of Bulawayo became a province in its own ight. Matabeleland North is divided into seven districts. Its capital is Lupane, and Victoria Falls and Hwange its largest towns. The name "Matabeleland" is derived from the Matabele or Ndebele people, the province's largest ethnic group.
Hwange National Park is the largest natural reserve in Zimbabwe. It is around 14,600 sq km in area. It lies in the northwest of the country, just off the main road between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. The nearest town is Dete. Livingstone is a city in Zambia. Until 1935, it served as the capital of Northern Rhodesia. Lying 10 km (6 mi) to the north of the Zambezi River, it is a tourism attraction center for the Victoria Falls and a border town with road and rail connections to Zimbabwe on the other side of the Victoria Falls. A historic British colonial city, its present population was enumerated at 177,393 inhabitants at the 2022 census. It is named after David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer and missionary who was the first European to explore the area. Until 2011, Livingstone was the provincial capital of Zambia's Southern Province.
Victoria Falls, popularly known as Vic Falls, is a resort town and city in the province of Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. It lies on the southern bank of the Zambezi River at the western end of Victoria Falls themselves. According to the 2022 Population Census, the town had a population of 35,199.
The Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Road runs from Walvis Bay, through Rundu in north eastern Namibia, along the Caprivi Strip to Katima Mulilo on the Zambezi River, which forms the border between Namibia and Zambia. The Katima Mulilo Bridge spans the river to the Zambian town of Sesheke from where a road runs to Livingstone, joining the main north–south highway to Lusaka, connecting onwards to the Copperbelt.
Tsholotsho, originally known as Tjolotjo, is a district in Matabeleland North province in Zimbabwe. Its administrative centre is at Tsholotsho business centre which is located about 98 km north-west of Bulawayo. Districts around Tsholotsho include Lupane, Hwange, Umguza, and Bulilima. The Manzamnyama River separates Tsholotsho from Bulilima District, whilst the Gwayi River separates it from Umguza and Lupane districts, and the Hwange National Park separates it from Hwange District.
Marist Brothers Secondary School, Dete (MBSS), otherwise referred to as 'Marist Dete' is a co-educational (mixed) boarding secondary school Dete, in the Hwange district of Zimbabwe’s Matabeleland North Province. The school was established in 1972 and is part of the international family of Marist schools run by the Marist Brothers, a Catholic society founded in 1817 by Saint Marcellin Champagnat in France.
Dete is a small railway re-crewing depot and a developing town on the Bulawayo-Hwange-Victoria Falls railway line in Zimbabwe, approximately 300 km (190 mi) north-west of Bulawayo and 67 km (42 mi) south-east of Hwange, lying within the Hwange National Park.
Lupane ( luːpɑːnɛ) District is located in the Matabeleland North Province of Zimbabwe, and it is also the Provincial Capital. The District is situated at an elevation of 976 m with a population of 107,000 inhabitants by 2022. Lupane Town is the main center of the district located 172 km from Bulawayo along the A8 Victoria Falls Road. The Government Provincial Administrative offices are located at the Town Centre. A new university near the Town has been established under the name Lupane State University, which caters for the region and beyond. The word Lupane is thought to be a Kalanga or Lozwi word.
The T1 or Lusaka–Livingstone Road is the main highway of the Southern Province of Zambia. It begins 55 kilometres south of the city of Lusaka and heads south-west to the principal tourist destination, Victoria Falls in Livingstone, via Mazabuka, Monze, Choma and Kalomo, measuring approximately 430 kilometres (267 mi). The entire route is part of Trans-African Highway network number 4 or Cairo-Cape Town Highway between Cairo and Cape Town.
Rev. Fr. Odilo (Otto) Weeger, CMM was a Roman Catholic missionary in Matabeleland, Southern Africa. He arrived in Africa in July 1938 and was based at Mariannhill in Natal, South Africa. He was later transferred to Southern Rhodesia where he worked at St. Patrick's in Bulawayo before moving to Lukosi, near Hwange in 1939.
The A6 is a highway in Zimbabwe running from the Beitbridge border with South Africa, through Gwanda, to Bulawayo. It is part of the R9 Route, which links Beitbridge with Victoria Falls.
The Cairo–Cape Town Highway is Trans-African Highway 4 in the transcontinental road network being developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the African Union. The route has a length of 10,228 km (6,355 mi) and links Cairo in Egypt to Cape Town in South Africa.

The Kwekwe-Gokwe Highway or the R84-7 Highway is an all-weather bitumen macadam highway in Zimbabwe running from Kwekwe to Gokwe passing through Zhombe. As a trunk road it is officially designated as the P11 Highway.
The A9 Road is a national highway in Zimbabwe running from Mutare to Mbalabala. The road begins in Mutare and runs south-west through Nyanyadzi, Birchenough Bridge, Masvingo, Mashava, Zvishavane, Filabusi and ends at Mbalabala where it joins the (A6) Bulawayo-Beit Bridge Highway near the 61.5 km peg. The 513 kilometres (319 mi) highway is about a 6 hours 15 minute drive.
