ABSA Cup (Zambia)

The ABSA Cup is an association football cup competition held for men's domestic football teams in Zambia. It was founded in 2007 and is overseen by the Football Association of Zambia. [1] [2] Participants are decided half-way through current season [3] and are picked from the two highest divisions in Zambia. Since the inaugural season of National Division One in 2019/20, two teams are picked from the National Division One while 6 teams are picked from the Super League to enter tournament. [4]

In 2019, it became the ABSA Cup. [5]

The 2019 Zambia Super League is the 58th season of the Zambia Super League, the top-tier football league in Zambia. Due to the transitional calendar of the CAF competitions in 2018–19, the 20 teams in the league will be divided into two groups of ten teams stream A and stream B, one of teams from the north and one of teams from the south, Nkana leading one and Zesco United heading the other. The teams top two with the most points will qualify for the CAF Champions League then the other two will play the CAF Confederations Cup. The League will return to normal for the 2019–20 season. The league is set to kick off on the 27th of January, A day after the Charity Shield.

The Zambian Charity Shield officially called Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield since 2003 is a season opener match between the champions of the previous Super League season and the holders of the ABSA Cup. If the Super League champions also won the ABSA Cup then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture was first played in the 1967 season. The current holders are Nkana, who defeated Indeni 2-0 in the 2020 match.

The Zambian National Division One is the second highest football division for men in Zambia and was introduced for the 2019/20 season with 18 teams. The league is administered by Zambia Premier League and is because of sponsorship reasons called Eden University National Division One League, as Eden University and FAZ signed a five year's agreement prior the inaugural season. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Zambia Super League and Zambian Division One, and is played over 34 games.

The FAZ Women Super Division is the highest league of women’s football in Zambia. It was established in the beginning of 2021 and is run by FAZ. The inauguration season features 12 teams from four provinces in Zambia.

The 2021 ABSA Cup is the 14th edition of the ABSA Cup contested by teams from the top tiers of Zambian football. The top six teams from the Super League and the top two teams from the National Division One, after 17 games of the 2020/21 season qualified for the tournament. As the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019 champions, ZESCO United are defending champions.
