A Boy from Tandale is the third studio album by Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz - following Kamwambie (2010) and Lala Salama (2012). It was released on March 14, 2018, by Universal Music Group. After joining Universal Music Group in 2017, [1] Diamond began working on the songs which would be used on the album. Musically, A Boy from Tandale is an afro-pop, Bongo Flava album that displays influences of music from West of Africa - especially Nigeria.

Contents

The title of the album refers to Tandale, in the Kinondoni district of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania, Tandale being Diamond Platnumz's birthplace. The album consists of eighteen tracks, eleven of them already released as singles. The album features several artists from the United States such as Ne-Yo ("Marry You"), Morgan Heritage ("Hallelujah"), Rick Ross ("Waka") and Omarion ("African Beauty"). [2] From Africa, the artistes featured on the album are Vanessa Mdee ("Far Away"), Rayvanny ("Iyena"), Jah Prayzah ("Amanda"), Mr. Flavour ("Nana"), Young Killer ("Pamela"), P-Square ("Kidogo"), Tiwa Savage ("Fire") and Richie Mavoko ("Sijaona").

Most of the tracks from the album were produced by his label producer Laizer Classic [3] who also served as the executive producer for the album. The album was launched in Kenya. [4] Songa Music of Kenya sponsored the launch. [5]

Two songs from the album were banned by the National Arts Council Tanzania (BASATA), the songs including "Waka" and "Hallelujah" citing "obscene lyrics" issues. [6] [7]

Nasibu Abdul Juma Issack, popularly known by his stage name Diamond Platnumz, is a Tanzanian bongo flava recording artist, dancer, philanthropist and a businessman of Ha heritage. He was born and raised in Tandale, Dar es Salaam. He is the founder and CEO of WCB Wasafi Record Label, Zoom Extra, Wasafi Bet and Wasafi Media. Diamond has gained a cult following in East and Central Africa. He became the first Africa-based artist to reach a combined total of 900 million YouTube views.

Vanessa Hau Mdee, is a Tanzanian singer, rapper, television personality and radio host. Mdee is popularly known for being the first ever Tanzanian MTV VJ. She later rose to prominence as a radio and TV host, hosting Epic Bongo Star Search and Dume CHallenge for ITV Tanzania before signing to B'Hits Music Group in late 2012.

Wasafi Classic Baby is a Tanzania-based record label founded by Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz.

Hamisi Shaban Taletale, also known as Babu Tale, is a Tanzanian talent manager and a politician presently serving as the Chama Cha Mapinduzi's Member of Parliament for Morogoro South constituency since November 2020. He is the co-founder of the WCB Wasafi music label. Tale represents artists including Diamond Platnumz, Madee, Rayvanny, Mbosso, Rich Mavoko, and Dogo Janja. Afrikan Sauce is the fourth studio album by Kenyan band Sauti Sol, released on their eponymous record label Sauti Sol Entertainment. Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, better known by his stage name Mbosso, is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter born in Kibiti, Pwani Region, he is currently based in Dar es Salaam and signed under WCB Wasafi record label. Mbosso is known for his songs "Nadekezwa" and "Hodari" which won Video of the Year at HiPipo Awards 2019. Mbosso released his debut studio album, Definition of Love, in March 2021.

Juma Mussa Mkambala, popularly known by his artist name Jux and sometimes referred to as 'African Boy', is a Tanzanian Artist and Songwriter. Born in Dar es Salaam, his interest in music began at a young age, when at the age of 16 he began to rap. However it is his singing that he is best known for to date, and is considered one of Tanzania's highest paid artists. In 2008 when Jux signed to Tanzanian record label A.M records, he began to record R&B songs instead. Since then he has released several hit songs, including 'Sugua' featuring Diamond Platnumz, 'Juu' featuring Vanessa Mdee, and most recently 'Regina' featuring Otile Brown. In 2018 his song 'Uzuri Wako' was banned by the Tanzanian Communications Regulatory Authority, along with songs from several other artists, including Diamond Platnumz, for going against Tanzanian morals and values.
