On 3 May 2013, Diamond Platnumz set a new record at the Tanzania Music Awards by winning 7 awards, including Best Male Writer, Best Male Artist, Best Song Writer and Best Male Entertainer of the Year. The previous record was set by 20%, a recording artist who walked away with 5 awards at the 2011 Tanzania Music Awards where diamond left empty handed. Prior to accomplishments, Diamond held the record for winning 4 awards at the 2010 Tanzania Music Awards.

"Gobe" is a song by Nigerian singer Davido, released on February 25, 2013. It peaked at number one on the MTV Base Official Naija Top Ten chart, surpassing Banky W.'s "Yes/No". The song stayed atop the music chart for three weeks and was eventually toppled by Kcee's "Limpopo". "Gobe" was nominated for Most Popular Song of the Year at the 2013 City People Entertainment Awards and for Best Pop Single at The Headies 2013. The music video for "Gobe" was nominated for Most Gifted Afro Pop Video at the 2013 Channel O Music Video Awards, and for Best Pop Extra Video at the 2013 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA). Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is a Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist. He is known by his stage name Shatta Wale, formerly Bandana. His best-known singles are "Dancehall King", "My Level" and "We Taking Over". He is also known for "Already" from Beyoncé's The Lion King: The Gift, which also featured Major Lazer. His song "Dancehall King" earned him the Artiste of the Year at the 2014 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. Wale is also an actor who appeared in the films Never Say Never,The trial of Shatta Wale and Shattered Lives. Wale's 2004 recording "Moko Hoo" was nominated for a Ghana Music Award.

The 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards took place on 31 August 2014, at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The eligibility period was from March 2013 to March 2014. In April 2014, the NEA reviewing committee began collecting submissions for the 2014 edition. The deadline for submission was April 30, 2014, and the nominations were announced on May 29, 2014. Tiwa Savage and Davido received the most nominations with 5 each. Don Jazzy, Flavour N'abania and Wizkid all got four nominations each, while Olamide, Patoranking, Chidinma and Oritse Femi followed closely with three nominations.

Yemi Eberechi Alade, who is better known as Yemi Alade, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, actress and activist. Her music is a mixture of Afropop, highlife, dancehall, pop and R&B, and has been of influence in several countries across Africa. She sings in English, Igbo, Pidgin, Yoruba, French, Swahili and Portuguese.

The 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards took place on 29 November 2014 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto. Nominees were announced on 4 September. Cassper Nyovest, K.O and Davido led the nominations with 5 each. DJ Clock's hit song "Pluto", which features the singing trio Beatenberg, followed with 4. AKA and Uhuru both received three nominations apiece. Cassper Nyovest and Diamond Platnumz both took home three awards apiece.

Rajab Abdul Kahali, also known by his stage name Harmonize, is a Tanzanian Bongo Flava recording artist, and entrepreneur.

"Pana" is a song recorded by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tekno, which was released in July 22, 2016, by Made Men Music Group, it was written by Tekno and produced by Krizbeatz. The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics and tops the MTV Base's hottest track of 2016 at number 2, it also debuted at the top 10 Soundcity TV count down.
