Gro Brundtland is a Norwegian politician (Arbeiderpartiet), who served three terms as the 29th Prime Minister of Norway, as the Leader of the Labour Party from 1981 to 1992, and as the director-general of the World Health Organization from 1998 to 2003. She is also known for having chaired the Brundtland Commission which presented the Brundtland Report on sustainable development.

Britt Karin Larsen is a Norwegian poet, author and government scholar. Larsen debuted as a poet in 1978 with 5 mg blues og andre dikt, and has published many poetry collections and novels since. She is best known for her novel trilogy about Norwegian and Swedish Travellers, De som ser etter tegn (1997), De usynliges by (1998) and Sangen om løpende hester (1999). The trilogy has been called a literary monument for Romany people in Norway. Larsen was given the Norsk PEN's highest freedom prize, the Ossietzky-prisen, in 2000.
Lars Gule is a Norwegian philosopher. He has graduated with a doctorate in philosophy, and is an associate professor. From 2000 to 2005 he was secretary general of the Norwegian Humanist Association. Gule became known to the general public in 1977 when after having joined the DFLP group, Gule was arrested in Beirut, Lebanon with Semtex in his luggage intended for Israeli targets leading to a six-month conviction and subsequent deportation. He remains active as a anti-Israel activist. Gule is often used by Norwegian media as an authority on questions regarding the Middle East, Islam and extremism.
Utøya is an island in the Tyrifjorden lake in Hole municipality, in the county of Viken, Norway. The island is 10.6 hectares, situated 500 metres (1,600 ft) off the shore, by the E16 road, about 20 km (12 mi) driving distance south of Hønefoss, and 38 km (24 mi) northwest of Oslo city centre.

The 2011 Norway attacks were a bombing in Oslo and a series of shootings at Utøya on Friday, 22 July 2011. The first attack was a bomb exploding in Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Oslo, and the second an attack on a youth camp organized by the youth organization (AUF) of the Norwegian Labour Party (AP) on the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Viken.
The trial of Anders Behring Breivik, the perpetrator of the 2011 Norway attacks, took place between 16 April and 22 June 2012 in Oslo District Court. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years of preventive detention on 24 August 2012. 170 media organisations were accredited to cover the proceedings, involving some 800 individual journalists.

Ila prison and detention center is a high security prison in Ila in Bærum municipality in Akershus county, outside the capital city of Oslo in Norway. It is the national preventive detention facility for men in Norway, i.e. the prison for men serving preventive detention (forvaring), Norway's maximum penalty. Ila generally houses the most dangerous criminals in Norway, who are convicted of violent and sexual crimes.

Ross Kolby is a Norwegian visual artist and author. His paintings are often political and reference classical art, historical events and debate contemporary topics. With the use of both modern and classical symbols as well as symbolic persons Kolby has worked with themes like racism, the clerical abuse of children in the Catholic Church and the Anders Behring Breivik 2011 Norway Attacks. He also works extensively with portraits and has among others painted the three generations of Norwegian monarchs involved in the events of WWII, Dame Vera Lynn and Elizabeth II.
