Aaron Roderick (December 20, 1972) is an American football coach and former wide receiver who is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Brigham Young University (BYU). He was previously BYU's passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2018 to 2020 and an offensive consultant in 2017. Roderick was previously in other assistant coaching roles, including at the University of Utah from 2005 to 2016 and Southern Utah University (SUU) from 2003 to 2004.

Coaching career

BYU

In 1999, Roderick began his coaching career at BYU, his alma mater, as a graduate assistant for the offense under head coach LaVell Edwards. When Edwards retired as BYU's head coach in 2001, Roderick was retained as a graduate assistant under new head coach Gary Crowton.

Snow College

In 2002, Roderick was hired as the running backs coach at Snow College.

Southern Utah

In 2003, Roderick was named the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at SUU.

Utah

In 2005, Roderick joined the University of Utah as the wide receivers coach. Before the 2009 season, Utah offered Roderick a promotion to co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach and he briefly accepted before opting to go to the University of Washington to serve as the wide receivers coach. A few weeks later, Roderick returned to Utah, citing personal reasons, to be the wide receivers coach. [1] [2] In 2010, Roderick was promoted to Utah's co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. [3]

BYU (second stint)

In 2017, Roderick returned to BYU as an offensive consultant. In 2018, Roderick was hired as the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach under head coach Kalani Sitake. In 2019, Roderick was a 2019 Broyles Award nominee, an annual award given to the nation's top assistant coach. [4] On January 4, 2021, Roderick was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, replacing Jeff Grimes, who left to become the offensive coordinator at Baylor University. [5]

Personal life

Roderick graduated from BYU in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in sociology, and earned a master's degree in sociology at BYU in 2002, while working as the running backs coach at Snow College. Roderick is married to Ellen McConnell and has three children.

Kyle David Whittingham is an American football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at the University of Utah, a position he has held since 2005, and is the all-time leader in wins at Utah. Prior to becoming the head coach at Utah, Whittingham served as Utah's defensive coordinator for ten seasons. He was named head coach of Utah after Urban Meyer left for the University of Florida in 2004. He won AFCA Coach of the Year and the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award in 2008 after leading the 2008 Utah Utes football team to an undefeated season and a win in the 2009 Sugar Bowl over the 2008 Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Andy Ludwig is an American football coach. He currently is the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at the University of Utah. He played college football at Snow College and Portland State University, graduating in 1988.

Jeff Grimes is an American football coach, and the offensive coordinator for the Kansas Jayhawks. The team was coached by seventh year head coach Kyle Whittingham and played their home games in Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. After playing the previous 12 seasons in the Mountain West Conference, this was Utah's first season in the new Pac-12 Conference in the South Division. They are the first former "BCS Buster" to join a BCS conference. They finished the season 8–5, 4–5 to finish in a tie for third place in the South Division. They were invited to the Sun Bowl where they defeated Georgia Tech 30–27 in overtime.

They were invited to the Fight Hunger Bowl where they lost to Washington, 31–16.

They finished the season 9–4. They were invited to the Poinsettia Bowl where they defeated Wyoming.

Ilaisia Tuiaki is an American football coach who is the defensive line coach at Oregon State University. During his college playing career, Tuiaki was a linebacker and fullback at Southern Utah University (SUU) and Snow College. Tuiaki is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and earlier in his life served as an LDS missionary to New York City. In December 2015, Tuiaki was hired by Kalani Sitake to follow him to BYU as the defensive coordinator after serving as a coach at the University of Utah and Oregon State University with Sitake. Following the 2022 season, Tuiaki resigned his position as the defensive coordinator at BYU.

Kevin Daniel McGiven is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at San Jose State University.

The Cougars finished with 10 wins for the second year in a row.

Craig Ver Steeg is an American football coach who most recently was the running backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He also served as an assistant coach at the college level for Utah, Rutgers and Harvard.
