Abadiyeh (Arabic : العبادية; also spelled al-Abadiyah or Aabadiyeh) is a municipality in the Baabda District of Mount Lebanon Governorate, Lebanon. It is located 16 kilometers east of Beirut. There is one main public highschool in the town, which had more than 500 pupils in 2019. [2] It is the hometown of Lebanese actress Cyrine Abdelnour, Lebanese footballer Zaher Al Indari, former President of Brazil Michel Temer, Lebanese kick boxing fighter Rabih Zahr, and Lebanese Director in Moderna Inc Froncois Nader.

Geography

Abadiyeh has a land area of 916 hectares. [2] Its average elevation is 780 meters above sea level. [2] Neighboring localities include Chouit to the west, Beit Mery to the northwest, Ras el-Matn to the north, el-Halaliyeh to the east, Baalchemay to the southeast, and Aley and Ain el-Jdeide to the south. [2]

Shebaa is a town on the south-eastern tip of Lebanon. It has a largely Sunni Muslim population of 25,000 people. It is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,700 m (5,600 ft) above sea level, spreading across two steep rocky mountainsides. Abadiyeh, Abadiyah, Aabadiyeh and other romanisations, preceded or not by the article al- or el-, is an Arabic place-name derived from the word ʿabd, meaning 'slave', 'servant', or 'worshipper'. It is often understood as the shortened form of ʿAbd Allah, meaning "servant of God". The suffix -iya, in all its different transliterations, means "place of...", creating for Abadiyeh the meaning of "place of the slave/servant/worshipper'.

Ehmej is a municipality in the Byblos District of Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate, Lebanon. It is located 57 kilometers northeast of Beirut. Ehmej's inhabitants are predominantly Maronite Catholics. There are two schools in the town, one public and the other private, with a total of 308 pupils in 2006. Ehmej also contains three quarries, and as of 2006, had four companies with over five employees operating in the town. It hosts the annual Ehmej Festival.

Its average elevation is 1,215 meters (3,986 ft) above sea level and its jurisdiction covers 7,759 hectares. It had 6,557 registered voters in 2010. Its inhabitants are Shia Muslims.

Fouad Najjar (1909–1992) was a Lebanese agronomist and politician who served as minister of agriculture in 1958 and in 1964. He was also minister of agriculture and PTT between 1959 and 1960.
