Abdus Shakoor (born 31 December 1947) is a Bangladeshi painter and calligrapher. [1]
Abdus Shakoor was born on 31 December 1947 in the Bogra district of Pakistan (now Bangladesh).[ citation needed ] His work focuses on ancestral and historical themes, following in the folk-tradition of Quamrul Hassan and Jamini Roy. [2] Common themes in Abdus Shakoor's paintings include Bengali folk motifs and ballads; the "Mahua" and "Malua" love stories [1] (two romantic folk ballads from Eastern Bengal, dating back to around the 17th century, collected by Dinesh Chandra Sen in the 1920s and published in his Eastern Bengal Ballads ) [3] as well as the Nakshi Kanthar Math . He has illustrated his works with folk-motifs. Peacock and parrots as well as elephants, bulls, cats, tigers, serpents and lizards feature prominently in his works. [1]
All of Abdus Shakoor's compositions are bordered with free-flowing thick brush lines. There is almost no hard line in the paintings. His style has been compared with European artists such as Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee.[ citation needed ]
He is chairman of the Craft Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University.
Among the awards Abdus Shakoor has won is a gold medal in the 15th National Art Exhibition at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, in 2002. [2]
Abdus Sattar was a Bangladeshi statesman. A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he served as the President of Bangladesh from 1981 to 1982, and earlier as the Vice President of Bangladesh. A jurist by profession, Abdus Sattar held numerous constitutional and political offices in British India, East Pakistan and Bangladesh. He was a cabinet minister, supreme court judge, and chief election commissioner.
Jasimuddin PP IP EP, popularly called Palli Kabi, was a Bangladeshi poet, lyricist, composer and writer widely celebrated for his modern ballad sagas in the pastoral mode. Although his full name is Jasim Uddin Mollah, he is known as Jasim Uddin. His Nakshi Kanthar Math and Sojan Badiar Ghat are considered among the best lyrical poems in the Bengali language. He is the key figure for the revivals of pastoral literature in Bengal during the 20th century. As a versatile writer, Jasimuddin wrote poems, ballads, songs, dramas, novel, stories, memoirs, travelogues, etc.
Manikganj is a district in central Bangladesh and part of the Dhaka Division. Established in 1845, it was a subdivision of Faridpur District until, in 1953, it was transferred to Dhaka District for administrative purposes. In 1984, Manikganj was declared a full district.
Zainul Abedin, also known as Shilpacharya was a Bangladeshi painter. He became well known in 1944 through his series of paintings depicting some of the great famines in Bengal during its British colonial period. After the Partition of Indian subcontinent he moved to East Pakistan. In 1948, he helped to establish the Institute of Arts and Crafts at the University of Dhaka. The Indian Express has described him as a legendary Bangladeshi painter and activist. Like many of his contemporaries, his paintings on the Bengal famine of 1943 are viewed as his most characteristic works. His homeland honored him with the title "Shilpacharya" "Great teacher of the arts" for his artistic and visionary attributes. He was the pioneer of the modern art movement that took place in Bangladesh and was rightly considered by Syed Manzoorul Islam as the founding father of Bangladeshi modern arts, soon after Bangladesh earned the status of an independent republic.

Researcher Asaddor Ali from Sylhet claimed that nine famous ballads of Maimansingha Gitika were actually Sylheti in origin.
Rai Bahadur Dinesh Chandra Sen was a Bengali writer, educationist and researcher of Bengali folklore from the Indian subcontinent. He was the founding faculty member and the Ramtanu Lahiri Research Fellow of the Department of Bengali Language and Literature of the University of Calcutta. He died in Calcutta in 1939.
