Abhicharan is a village in Sadar sub-division of West Tripura district of Tripura, India. The people here belong to the Tripuri tribe and they speak Kokborok. The government figure for the population is 2822. [1] The village has amenities like telephones, schools, rice-mill, markets and also it is connected with the nearby town of Khayerpur via Kisong. It is also connected to Agartala through Kamalghat junction. A Tripura State Rifles out-post is located in this village, which looks after the security problems of this village, as this village is very strategic in location. [2] It is situated right in the heart of Sadar sub-division. From here the villages of the interiors can be accessed very well through village unmetalled roads.

Tripuri people ethnic group

The Tripuri people are the original inhabitants of the Twipra Kingdom in North-East India and Bangladesh. The Tripuri people through the Manikya dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Tripura for more than 2000 years until the kingdom joined the Indian Union in 1949.

Abhicharan Baptist Church

There is a local church, Abhicharan Baptist Church, that is one of the oldest in its area. The church is affiliated with the Sadar North Baptist Association. Many Baptist leaders have been from this village like the Late Rev. Rabindra Debbarma and Rev. Chandra Kanta Debbarma who is currently the Executive Secretary of Sadar North Baptist Association.

Sadar North Baptist Association

Sadar North Baptist Association (SNBA) is the largest Kokborok speaking Baptist community in Tripura. It is located within the West Tripura district of Tripura in India. As of 2014, SNBA had more than 21,000 members and 156 churches.

Vehicle services are available from Radhanagar motorstand of Agartala via Kamalghat-Lephunga road. It has a road connectivity with Sidhai-Mohanpur also.

The Tripura Baptist Christian Union (TBCU) is the largest Christian Groups in the Indian state of Tripura. It has its head office in Agartala, the state capital. The TBCU is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Baptist Federation (APBF) and the Baptist World Alliance (BWA). It is also a member church in the North East India Christian Council (NEICC), a regional church body of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI). As of 2015, TBCU had 84,795 members in 845 churches.

Christianity in Tripura

National Twipra Christian Fellowship (NTCF) is an association of Christian church fellowships in India and Bangladesh composed of Tripuri Christians. NTCF was founded on 20 August 2011 and the present leadership is at Shillong, Meghalaya. There at present 18 city fellowships which are associated with the NTCF as of 2017. The Annual NTCF Conference is the main program of the organization which is organized in a selected city in India.
