Adam Hyeronimus is an Australian professional jockey who has ridden in 3,668 horse races for 484 wins. [1] [2]

Early life

Hyeronimus was born in Caloundra in Queensland and is the son of champion jockey Craig Hyeronimus and grandson of champion jockey Reg Paine. Hyeronimus moved to Macau for several years when his father rode there, before the family returned and settled in Cowra New South Wales. [3] As an 18 year old in 2008 Hyeronimus said "I didn't ride at pony club, I was more interested in playing rugby league, sport " [3]

Career

On Saturday 28 March 2020 Hyeronimus rode his 1st Group One winner aboard the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained horse Shout The Bar in the $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney. [4] [5]

Nicknamed 'Hippo', [6] Hyeronimus has a long standing association with Australian Racing Hall Of Fame horse trainer Gai Waterhouse. [7] When asked about Hyeronimus, Waterhouse said "Adam Hyeronimus is riding absolutely super, he understands the pace of races, never bustles them, he rates them perfectly. It’s a real art." [8] Another big race win for the jockey was in October 2018 when Hyeronimus 'stole' the inaugural $1.3m The Kosciuszko on Grafton galloper Belflyer, who started $71. [9] Hyeronimus had stints with Grafton trainer John Shelton and Jason Coyle at Warwick Farm Racecourse before ending up at Tulloch Lodge with Gai Waterhouse. [10]

After graduating from the University of New South Wales, she worked as an actor for a time, appearing in both Australian and English television series. Having worked under her father for a period of 15 years, Waterhouse was granted an Australian Jockey Club (AJC) licence in 1992, and trained her first Group One (G1) winner later that year.

Whizgig (1819–1840) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the classic 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in 1822. In a racing career which lasted from April 1822 until May 1824 she ran fourteen times and won seven races. Unraced as a two-year-old, Whizgig won six of her seven races in 1822, her only defeat coming in the Oaks Stakes. She remained in training for a further two seasons, but was less successful, winning only one more race. She later became a successful broodmare.

Chautauqua is a former and now retired champion Australian racehorse. He was bred as a thoroughbred, which is the superior breed for a racehorse.
