The Addison County Independent is a weekly newspaper located in Middlebury, VT that covers Addison County. The paper was founded in 1946 as the Addison Independent [1] and is now owned and published by Angelo Lynn. [2] The paper is a member of the New England Newspapers and Press Association, [3] and in 2016, the paper won the award of first place for general excellence in its class from the association. [4] The paper is published weekly on Thursdays.
The Addison Independent was founded in 1946 by William J. Slator and his wife Celine. [5] [6] At the time they owned Addison Press, Inc. which published the paper as well as served a commercial printing plant. [5] In 1955 the newspaper name changed to The Addison County Independent. [6]
In 1976 William J. Slator sold the Addison County Independent to Gordon T. Mills, who was the editor for the Burlington Free Press. [5]
In 1984 the current owner, Angelo Lynn, purchased the paper. [7] In 1988, Lynn changed the publication schedule to twice-weekly, [8] which continued until April 2020 when it shifted to weekly publication during the COVID-19 pandemic.[ citation needed ]
The Addison County Independent's web site carries local stories and allows for individual online subscriptions.
The Addison County Independent mostly reports on news in Addison County, however some news is included from Rutland County, particularly school news related to Otter Valley Union High School.

Seven Days is an alternative weekly newspaper that is distributed every Wednesday in Vermont. The American Newspapers Representatives estimate Seven Days' circulation to be 35,000 papers. It is distributed free of charge throughout Burlington, Middlebury, Montpelier, Stowe, the Mad River Valley, Rutland, St. Albans, and Plattsburgh, New York.

Ferrisburgh–Vergennes station is an intermodal Amtrak and bus station in Ferrisburgh, Vermont, adjacent to the city of Vergennes. The facility opened in 2007 as a free park and ride lot operated by the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). Bus service is provided by Tri-Valley Transit and Vermont Translines. The historic station building serves passengers at the Amtrak platform located along the southwest corner of the facility. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021 as the Vergennes Station House. Rail service began on July 29, 2022, when the Ethan Allen Express was extended from Rutland to Burlington.
Suzanne Gillis (Sue) is an American publisher and founder of four publications, Vermont Woman 1985, Vermont Times 1990, Provincetown Banner 1995, and Vermont Woman 2003. Gillis was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina and is a 1962 graduate of Torrington High School, Torrington, Ct, and the University of Vermont (BA Political Science 1981.) Gillis is a long time resident of Vermont.
