Adeel Hashmi (born July 17, 1973) is a Pakistani television/film actor, comedian, social worker, producer, filmmaker, and screenwriter. He is known for his comical roles in shows such as Teen Bata Teen and Ulta Saeeda.

Education

Adeel did his MBA (Marketing) and received a Masters in Fine Arts (2004) from Academy of Art University. He was a par-excellence student who was on his film schools’ President and Honor Lists throughout his academic tenure.

He did his Bachelors of Arts from Government College Lahore (1992 – 1994).

He studied Mathematics, Economics and Statistics in his undergrad.

Actor

Adeel Hashmi is one of the most recognized and loved faces of our generation. He started his acting career in 1996 when he appeared in the iconic sit-com Teen Bata Teen (which he also wrote).

His character of ‘Loosy’ in Teen Bata Teen became an overnight sensation. He was nominated for his performance in the PTV Awards in 1997.

Adeel Hashmi always appeared on TV is satirical and humorous characters.

When asked why don't you do serious roles? He once replied ‘I do funny roles, very seriously’.

Adeel Hashmi has appeared in hundreds of television commercials. Some of the them (especially the Ufone ads with actor Faisal Qureshi) became trendsetters and changed the advertising industry.

Films

Bachaana (2016)

Adeel Hashmi played the role of the main villain Jahangir in the 2016 hit movie Bachaana. His performance as a villain was spellbinding, further cementing his acting capabilities. Many critics thought and ridiculed Adeel for choosing the powerful negative role though the film silenced the critics when the audiences throughout Pakistan and abroad hailed Adeel's powerful performance.

Donkey King (2018)

Donkey King is Pakistan's highest grossing animated film of all time. Adeel Hashmi played 5 characters in the film, most notably the loveable character of Shahzada Khan. Adeel's command over his voice is remarkable. The writer/director/producer of Donkey King, Aziz Jindani was amazed at how after a break of almost one year, Adeel Hashmi stepped into the recording booth and immediately slipped into the character where many other actors took hours, if not days, to remember and play the character they had played some months ago.

Adeel Hashmi has hosted countless public, private and corporate events. He is one of the most sought-after hosts in Pakistan. His command and control over both the languages (English and Urdu) makes him an automatic choice for many organizations.

Philanthropist

Adeel's contribution as a philanthropist is also impressive. He has made documentaries for many organizations to help them raise funds.

In 2010, the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) wanted to raise funds for the National Outreach Program to help give scholarships to deserving and worth students. LUMS approached Adeel to come up with something effective. Adeel made a short heartwarming documentary and LUMS was able to raise 170 million rupees in the following year!

Adeel has also made documentaries for Namal College Mianwali, Fountain House Lahore, Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, UNICEF, USAID, UNDP, Save The Children UK and many other social, development and philanthropic organisations.

Motivational speaker and trainer

Adeel commands a tremendous stage presence and he is regularly asked by schools and colleges to come and speak to the students.

His extempore TEDx talk, given at University of the Punjab in 2018 shows the power of his oratory and his diverse knowledge. His TEDx talk has more than 500,000 views.

Audiobook

Adeel Hashmi's recitation of Urdu poetry is par-excellence. He has his own unique informal yet careful style of poetry rendition. It is said that he often visits the great orator and actor Zia Mohyeddin and discusses the art of oratory.

Adeel made an Audiobook of Allama Iqbal’s Payam-e-Mashriq.

Teaching

Adeel Hashmi is a visiting faculty at the Lahore University of Management Sciences and Beaconhouse National University.

Pianist

Adeel is an amateur pianist who is trained in western classical piano. He has a grade 3 certificate in piano performance from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music. And also a grade 3 certificate from Trinity College London. He teaches piano to young children at Faiz Ghar.

Social Work

Adeel Hashmi now spends much of his time working voluntarily for the Faiz Foundation Trust (a not for profit Trust, setup by Adeel Hashmi and his family in memory of the great Urdu poet and Adeel Hashmi’s maternal grandfather, Faiz Ahmed Faiz).

He is the visionary and the main force behind the Faiz Festival that takes place in Lahore every year in November.

Chairman Punjab Film Censor Board

In October 2019, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan asked Adeel Hashmi to become the Chairman of the Punjab Film Censor Board. Adeel refused, stating he doesn’t want to work with the government. Upon insistence of the Prime Minister’s advisor Naeem-ul-Haq he finally agreed. There was a smear campaign against him from different quarters, saying he wasn’t ‘qualified’.

The media urged Adeel Hashmi to respond. He neither gave any interviews nor appeared on the media after taking charge as the Chairman of Punjab Film Censor Board in October 2019.

Contrary to what many critics think, he works pro bono.

Family

Adeel Hashmi comes from one of the most respected family of artists in Pakistan. Many of his family members have won several national and international awards in their respective fields.

He is the son of Humair Hashmi, a clinical psychologist, and Moneeza Hashmi who served in the Pakistan Television for over forty years and retired as the highest ranked woman in the history of PTV. She was awarded the President's Pride of Performance Award in 2007.

His uncle Shoaib Hashmi is also a renowned artists, actor, teacher and a mentor.

His aunt (Shoaib Hashmi's wife), Salima Hashmi is also a world-renowned artist, art critic, writer and a teacher.

Adeel is married to Samer Hashmi, a graduate of the National College of Arts. Together they have two kids. A daughter and a son. Adeel lives in Model Town, Lahore.

Pakistan Television Corporation is the Pakistani state-owned broadcaster. Founded on 26 November 1964 as a private company by NEC of Japan, PTV was nationalised by the Pakistani government in 1970, due to low revenue. PTV enjoyed a television monopoly until 1990. The end of this monopoly led to a boom in electronic media in Pakistan, which gained greater political influence.

Arthur Nayyar, (17 September 1955 – 11 November 2016), commonly known as A. Nayyar (Urdu: اے نیّر ‎), was a Pakistani film playback singer. He started his career in 1974 with a duet song. Farooq Qaiser in Lahore is a Pakistani artist, newspaper columnist, TV show director, puppeteer, script writer and voice actor. He has also written some comic books. Qaiser is well known for his fictional puppet Uncle Sargam introduced in 1976 in children's television show Kaliyan. Ghayyur Akhtar was a radio, television, film and theater actor from Lahore, Pakistan. He began his acting career in the late 1964–65 with Radio Pakistan. He was known as "Hameed Bhai " from his performance on the television serial Sona Chandi and Chacha Barkat from Radio Pakistan because of his "O Ho Ho Ho" dialogue. Bachaana is a 2016 Pakistani romantic thriller film starring Mohib Mirza and Sanam Saeed. It was directed by Nasir Khan and produced by Rizwan Saeed. The film was released worldwide on 26 February 2016 under the production banner Big Film Entertainment.

Faisal Qureshi is a Pakistani television personality, actor, director, writer, drama producer and humorist. He is known for directing or writing comedy dramas, sitcoms, commercials and music videos.

Anjum Shahzad is a Pakistani TV and film director, producer, writer, actor and a philanthropist. Shahzad rose to fame and is best known for his role as Bobby in the critically acclaimed and madly-followed comedy series Family Front in the 90s. The situational comedy earned him PTV Award for Best Debut Actor for his role as Bobby.
