Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and the first screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. It was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.
Naveen Kumar Gowda, well known by his screen name Yash, is an Indian actor who predominantly works in Kannada films. His career began in Television and landed in cinema. He is a recipient of three Filmfare Awards South and two SIIMA awards.
Biriyani is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language action comedy thriller film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Studio Green. B. Ajaneesh Loknath is an Indian music composer who works predominantly in Kannada and Tamil films besides few Telugu films. His film music career began with the 2009 Kannada film Shishira. He rose to fame with the film Ulidavaru Kandanthe (2015) for which he received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Music Director. Aruvi is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language political drama film written and directed by Arun Prabu Purushothaman, in his directorial debut. Produced and distributed by S. R. Prakash Babu and S. R. Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures, the film stars Aditi Balan, Anjali Vardhan, and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, while Pradeep Antony and Mohammad Ali Baig play supporting roles. The film portrays the events that occur in the life of Aruvi, a rebellious young woman who seeks to expose the consumerist and misogynistic nature of modern civilisation, while attempting to find meaning during a period of existential crisis.
Sudeepana Banakar Prabhudeva, popularly known by her stage name Aditi Prabhudeva, is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Kannada cinema.
Vasuki Vaibhav is an Indian composer and singer, music director, Actor known for his work in Kannada-language films. Vaibhav gained recognition after appearing in Rama Rama Re (2016). He was the second runner-up of Big Boss Kannada Season 7.
Amar is a 2019 Indian Kannada romantic action film directed by Nagashekar and produced by Sandesh Nagaraj under Sandesh Productions banner. The film stars Abhishek Ambareesh, son of veteran actor Ambareesh, making his acting debut and Tanya Hope in the lead roles. The supporting cast includes Devaraj, Sudharani, Chikkanna and Sadhu Kokila. Actor Darshan features in a guest role besides Anup Bhandari and Rachita Ram in special appearances.

Love Mocktail is a 2020 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed and written by Darling Krishna in his directorial debut. The film was released on 31 January 2020. The film was produced by Krishna and Milana Nagaraj, who also star in the film alongside Amrutha Iyengar. The plot follows the story of Adhi on his quest to find true love.
Dia is a 2020 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film written and directed by K. S. Ashoka, and produced by D Krishna Chaitanya under Sri Swarnalatha Productions. It stars Kushee Ravi, Pruthvi Ambaar and Dheekshith Shetty, with a score by B. Ajaneesh Loknath. It was released on 7 February 2020 and was a box office success. It was re-released in 2021.
Mayabazar 2016 is a 2020 Indian Kannada-language crime comedy film written and directed by debutant Radhakrishna Reddy, and produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar of PRK Productions, M Govinda. The film stars Raj B. Shetty, Vasishta Simha, Achyuth Kumar, Prakash Raj and Chaithra Rao. The movie is about events surrounding the 2016 Indian banknote demonetization and revolves around an honest police officer, a small-time conman, a jobless youth and a corrupt cop who end up crossing each other's paths when they are in quest of money.
Gentleman is a 2020 Indian Kannada-language action thriller film co-written and directed by Jadesh Kumar Hampi in his directorial debut, and produced by Guru Deshpande under his banner Guru Deshpande Productions. It features Prajwal Devraj and Nishvika Naidu along with Sanchari Vijay in the lead roles.
French Biriyani is a 2020 Indian Kannada-language comedy drama film directed by Pannaga Bharana and starring Danish Sait and Sal Yusuf. The film is produced by Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar and Gurudath A. Talwar of PRK Productions. It was released on 24 July 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.
