Aero India Seminar

Aero India Seminar is a biennial seminar held in Bangalore, India. It is jointly organized by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India and Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). The seminar precedes the Aero India airshow and exhibition held in Yelahanka Airforce Station, Bangalore.

History

The first edition was conducted in 1996. Subsequently, eight more editions have been successfully completed till 2013. The ninth edition of the seminar was held from 4 to 6 February 2013.

Motivation

Dr V. K Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister, Chairman of the Seminar Advisory Committee in his invitation for AeroIndia Seminar 2011 has succinctly brought out the motivation behind the Aero India Seminar.

"Aero India Seminar is aimed at providing the scientist, industry players, academia and Operator a platform to explore and exploit current technologies, examine future trends and prepare the road map for the next decade. Synergistic interaction amongst various stakeholders during the seminar would make this a reality"

Aero India Seminar 2007

The sixth edition of the Aero India Seminar was conducted between 5 and 8 February 2007. The theme was Aerospace Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities. Dr. G Madhavan Nair, Chairman ISRO, released the Seminar Proceedings. Mr. M Natarajan, SA to RM released the book "Vision 2020 Aerospace in India"

Aero India Seminar 2009

The seventh edition of the Seminar was conducted between 9 and 11 February 2009. The theme was Aerospace – Perspectives and Trends in Technologies. Mr. M Natarajan, SA to RM released the Seminar Proceedings. Mr. Ashok K Bawaja, Chairman Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, India released the "Special Issue of the Journal of AeSI"

Aero India Seminar 2011

The eighth edition of the Seminar was conducted between 7 and 9 February 2011. The theme was Aero & Space Technologies: Success Through Global Co-Operation. Mr. M Natarajan, SA to RM released the Seminar Proceedings. Mr. Ashok K Bawaja, Chairman Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, India released the "Special Issue of the Journal of AeSI"

Aero India Seminar 2013

The ninth edition held from 4 to 6 February 2013 was on the theme "Aerospace Products: Challenges in Design to Deployment". 1089 delegates attended the seminar. This included scientists, engineers, service officers, students, academics and invitee delegates from the sponsors. Mr Phil Boyle, President of the Royal Aeronautical Society, UK and Dr G.M.Rao, President, Aeronautical Society of India were the guests of honour during the inauguration of the seminar on 4 Feb 13. Shri A K Antony, Hon'ble Minister of Defence, Air Chief Mshl NAK Browne PVSM AVSM VM ADC and Shri RK Mathur, Secretary, Defence Production were the guests of honour during the inauguration of the Plenary Sessions on 5 Feb 13. 61 papers were presented during the seminar, with 27 authors invited from abroad and 23 authors invited from India. Apart from the invited papers, there were 12 contributed papers from ISRO, DRDO, HAL and BEL.

Satish Dhawan was an Indian mathematician and aerospace engineer, widely regarded as the father of experimental fluid dynamics research in India. Born in Srinagar, Dhawan was educated in India and further on in United States. Dhawan was one of the most eminent researchers in the field of turbulence and boundary layers, leading the successful and indigenous development of the Indian space programme. He succeeded M. G. K. Menon, as the third chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1972. The second launch pad of ISRO, Satish Dhawan space centre is named after him. He is greatly regarded as the man behind A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Aero India is a biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Bengaluru, India, at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. It is organised by the Defence Exhibition Organisation, Ministry of Defence.

The Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a standardized test conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers to various engineering Services under the Government of India. The GTRE GTX-35VS Kaveri is an afterburning turbofan project under development by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a lab under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Bengaluru, India. An Indian design, the Kaveri was originally intended to power production models of the HAL Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. However, the Kaveri programme failed to satisfy the necessary technical requirements on time and was officially delinked from the Tejas programme in September 2008.

The Human Rated Launch Vehicle is an ongoing programme by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to develop the technology needed to launch crewed orbital spacecraft into low Earth orbit. Three uncrewed flights, named Gaganyaan-1, Gaganyaan-2 and Gaganyaan-3 are scheduled to launch in 2024, followed by crewed flight in 2024 on an HLVM3 rocket.

The Directorate of Ordnance is an authority under the Department of Defence Production (DDP) of Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India. Its primary work is to management, give instructions and make coordination of government Ordance production public companies. It is the main regulatory body of Indian Ordnance and its administration civil service, Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS). Kota Harinarayana is an aviation engineer. He was born in Brahmapur. He was appointed as chairman of the board of governors of IIT (BHU), Varanasi by Hon'ble President of India on 25 August 2020 till 25 August 2023. He was the vice-chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and the president of the Aeronautical Society of India.

The DRDO Rustom is a family of medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned air vehicle (UAV) being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the three services, Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force, of the Indian Armed Forces. Rustom is derived from the NAL's LCRA developed by a team under the leadership of late Professor Rustom Damania in the 1980s. The UAV will have structural changes and a new engine.

Ram Narain Agarwal was an Indian aerospace engineer, known for his contributions to the Agni series of surface-to-surface missiles. He is considered the 'father of the Agni series of missiles'.

A Sivathanu Pillai is an Indian scientist who formerly served as Honorary Distinguished Professor at Indian Space Research Organisation (2015–2018) and an honorary professor at IIT Delhi in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (2015–2016) and a visiting professor at Indian Institute of Science (2014–2015).

Vijay Kumar Saraswat is an Indian scientist who formerly served as the Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Indian Minister of Defence. He retired as the Director General of the DRDO on 31 May 2013. Saraswat is presently a member of NITI Aayog, the Indian Government's apex public policy think tank and the President of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum. Saraswat is also a former Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) is a civil service of the Government of India. IOFS officers are Gazetted defence-civilian officers under the Ministry of Defence. They are responsible for the administration of the Indian Ordnance Factories, which provide the indigenous defence production capabilities of India.

Prem Shanker Goel is an Indian space scientist, former secretary at the Department of Ocean Development, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India and a former director of Indian Space Research Organization. Tumkur Seetharamaiah Prahlad is an Indian aerospace scientist and the former director of the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bengaluru, known as a specialist in Aerodynamics and Aerospace Design. His contributions are reported in Indian civil aircraft development programmes of Hansa and NAL Saras and light combat aircraft development programme. The Government of India awarded him the civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2004, The same year, he received the H. K. Firodia Award from H. K. Firodia Memorial Foundation.

Defence Research & Development Service (DRDS) is a Central Group 'A' Civil Service of the Government of India. DRDS scientists are Gazetted defence-civilian officers under the Ministry of Defence. They are responsible for developing new technologies and military hardware for the Indian defence and security forces.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">V. P. Sandlas</span>

Ved Prakash Sandlas was an Indian space scientist who worked with the Indian Space Research Organisation in its early days and headed the SLV-3 project during 1980–1984. He later worked with the Defence Research and Development Organisation till 2005. He was instrumental in setting up the Amity Institute of Space Science and Technology, and Amity Institute of Aerospace Engineering.
