This genus was first documented by Verhoefff in 1942 but wasn't described until 1998 by Stefano Taiti, Pasquino Paoli, and Franco Ferrara. The type specimen for this species is an Aethiopodillo sulcata from Mozambique. [1] There are only two species in this genus. [2] [3]
Aethiopodillo are morphologically similar to Caribodillo isopods of the same family. [4]
Aethiopodillo isopods have been found in Mozambique and Tanzania. [1]
