Afrominettia is a genus of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae.
The Lauxanioidea are a superfamily of flies that includes the two large families, the Lauxaniidae and Chamaemyiidae, and the small family Celyphidae. Generally, they are small to medium, densely populated, coloured flies. The Chamaemyiidae and Cremifaniidae live as parasites on insects. The family Celyphidae look like beetles.
The Lauxaniidae are a family of acalyptrate flies. They generally are small flies with large compound eyes that often are brightly coloured in life, sometimes with characteristic horizontal stripes, such as in Cestrotus species. Many species have variegated patterns on their wings, but in contrast they generally do not have variegated bodies, except for genera such as Cestrotus, whose camouflage mimics lichens or the texture of granitic rocks.
Opomyzidae is a family of acalyptrate Diptera. They are generally small, slender, yellow, brown or black coloured flies. The larval food plants are grasses, including cereal crops, the adults are mainly found in open habitats. Some species being agricultural pests.
The Celyphidae, commonly known as beetle flies or beetle-backed flies, are a family of flies. About 115 species in about 9 genera are known chiefly from the Oriental and Afrotropic biogeographic regions with one lineage in the New World.
Eugene Séguy was a French entomologist / artist who specialised in Diptera. He held a chair of entomology at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris from 1956 to 1960. He is also known for establishing the Diptera section at that museum. This entomologist is often confused with a French artist with a close name: Émile-Allain Séguy (1877-1951). The latter is known for his pochoir artworks representing plants and insects.
Myopites is a genus of tephritid or fruit flies in the family Tephritidae.
Minettia is a genus of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae. They have almost worldwide distribution, is one of the most species rich genera of the family with more than 120 described species. The Palaearctic is the most diverse with some 56 described species. The genus is divided into 3 subgenera.
Sapromyza (Sapromyzosoma) quadricincta, is a species of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae present in Europe.
The broad-headed flies is a subfamily of flies. Until 2010, they were known from only one species based on four specimens and placed in the family Eurychoromyiidae.
Meiosimyza rorida is a species of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae.
Cestrotus is a genus of brachyceran flies in the family Lauxaniidae.
Calliopum aeneum is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic. The larva is a stem miner of Trifolium pratense.
Tricholauxania praeusta is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic . The larvae are saprophagous.
Lauxania cylindricornis is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic.
Minettia inusta is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic.
Peplomyza litura is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic.
Sapromyza quadripunctata is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic.
Minettia longipennis is a species of fly in the family Lauxaniidae. It is found in the Palearctic.
Lauxania is a genus of small flies of the family Lauxaniidae.
Mesembrinellidae is a family of Neotropical flies in the order Diptera, and formerly included in the Calliphoridae. There are 36 described species.
