Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto (born 1 January 1970) is a Nigerian politician who is the Governor of Sokoto State. He was a former commissioner and was the deputy governor of Sokoto State from 2015 until his resignation in 2018. [1] [2]

Early life and background

Ahmed Aliyu was born on 1 January 1970, in Tudun wada at Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto state, Nigeria. He has worked as a cashier, an auditor and an accountant. [3] He was deputy director of Finance and Supply, Sabon-Birni Local Government, 1996 to 1998; Director of Finance and Supply, Kebbe Local Chief Accountant Local Government Service Commission, 2004 to 2007. [3] He was a two-term Commissioner and the first Executive Secretary of Police Trust Fund (PTF). [4]

Education

in May 2023, Ahmad Aliyu completed his Doctorate Degree in Business Administration at the Nasarawa State University. [5]

The 2019 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on March 9, 2019. Incumbent Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal won re-election for a second term, defeating Ahmad Aliyu of the APC and several minor party candidates.

The 2007 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on April 14, 2007. PDP candidate Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko won the election, defeating DPP Muhammed Dingyadi and 8 other candidates.

The 2012 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on February 18, 2012. PDP candidate Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko won the election, defeating ANPP Yusha'u Ahmed and 28 other candidates.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections</span>

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Sokoto State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Sokoto State, concurrent with elections to the Sokoto State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
