The Bakolori Dam is in Sokoto State in northwest Nigeria. It was completed in 1978 and its reservoir filled by 1981. It is a major reservoir on the Sokoto River,a tributary of the Rima River,which in turn feeds the Niger River. Water from the dam supplies the Bakolori Irrigation Project.

The 1979 Sokoto State gubernatorial election occurred on July 28,1979. NPN candidate Shehu Kangiwa won the election.
The 2023 Sokoto State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Sokoto State,concurrent with elections to the Sokoto State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Sokoto State was held on February 23,2019,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Sokoto State. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko representing Sokoto North,Shehu Abubakar Tambuwal representing Sokoto South and Abdullahi Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto East all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress. But the Court of Appeal Sokoto Division on 30 October 2019 sacked Shehu Abubakar Tambuwal representing Sokoto South on the platform of All Progressives Congress. Ibrahim Abdullahi Danbaba on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party replaced the sacked senator.
The Shehu Shagari College of Education is a state government higher education institution located in Sokoto,Sokoto State,Nigeria. It is affiliated to Ahmadu Bello University and Usmanu Danfodiyo University for its degree programmes. The current Provost is Wadata Hakimi.
