Umaru Mohammed was appointed Governor of North-Western State in Nigeria in July 1975 at the start of the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed. In February 1976 North-Western State was split into Niger State and Sokoto State. Umaru Mohammed continued as Governor of Sokoto State until July 1978. [1]
Umaru Mohammed died on 26 May 1980 in a crash of an Air Force Fokker F27 on the way to São Toméand Príncipe on a diplomatic mission. [2] He was travelling in place of his professional friend Ibrahim Babangida,who had just been approved to travel to the United States for professional training.[ citation needed ]
Kebbi State is a state in northwestern Nigeria. Kebbi State is bordered east and north of Sokoto and Zamfara states,and to the south by Niger state while its western border forms part of the national borders with Benin Republic for 103 km and Niger for 207 km. Barewa College is a college in Zaria,Kaduna State,northern Nigeria. Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford,it was originally known as Katsina College. It switched its name to Kaduna College in 1938 and to Government College,Zaria in 1949 before settling on Barewa College. It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most-celebrated post-primary schools there up to the early 1960s. The school is known for the large number of elites from the region who attended and counts among its alumni include Tafawa Balewa who was Prime Minister of Nigeria from 1960 to 1966,four heads of state of Nigeria. The school is located along Gaskiya road in the Tukur -Tukur area of Zaria.
Wing Commander Mohammed Ndatsu Umaru was a Military Governor of Kwara State,Nigeria from August 1985 to December 1987,and then of Kano State from December 1987 to July 1988 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Alhaji Usman Faruk was the first Military Governor of North-Western State in Nigeria from 1967 to 1975 after it was split off from the old Northern Region during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon. He was dismissed from office by General Murtala Mohammed,who took power in a coup on 29 July 1975,and who then launched a probe that found him guilty of illegally enriching himself while in office. He was later reinstated by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida regime after being cleared of all charges,and was given his full benefits and retirement rank. Shortly after he left office,the state was split into Niger State and Sokoto State.
Ahmed Muhammad Daku is a retired Nigerian Army brigadier general who was the military Governor of Kano State from August 1985 to December 1987. He later became military Governor of Sokoto State from December 1987 to August 1990.

Usman Sa'idu Nasamu Dakingari is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Kebbi State from 2007 to 2015. He was elected governor in April 2007,taking office on 29 May 2007. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He was reelected on 26 April 2011. However,on 24 February 2012 the Supreme Court upheld a ruling by the Kebbi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that nullified his election,and ordered a fresh election within 90 days. He was elected again on 31 March 2012 and took office on 2 April.

Abdu Gusau,Garkuwan Sokoto,MBE,OON (1918–1994),was a Nigerian civil engineer,and statesman who served as the Garkuwa of Sokoto until his death in 1994. He was the Chief estate engineer for Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria from 1967 to 1972 where he was in charge of estates,which included buildings,the campus road network and the water supply. Gusau also served as a principal engineer with Taylor Woodrow of London where he worked on building London Heathrow's airport terminal.
The 2011 Kebbi State gubernatorial election occurred on April 26,2011. PDP candidate Usman Saidu Nasamu Dakingari won the election,defeating CPC Abubakar Abubakar and 13 other candidates.
The 2023 Sokoto State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Sokoto State,concurrent with elections to the Sokoto State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
