Egypt won two medals during the course of the Games: Alaaeldin Abouelkassem earned silver in the men's foil, becoming the first competitor from an African nation to win a fencing medal, while Karam Gaber captured silver in the men's 84 kg Greco-Roman wrestling event. Two Egyptian weightlifters were awarded medals retroactively, after higher-ranked competitors were disqualified for doping: Abeer Abdelrahman took silver in the women's 75 kg event, while Tarek Yehia, received bronze in the men's 85 kg event. Among other achievements, Mostafa Mansour was the nation's first competitor in sprint canoeing while fencer Shaimaa El-Gammal became the first Egyptian female to appear in four editions of the Olympics.
Ihab El Sayed Abdelrahman is an Egyptian track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. His personal best of 89.21 m is the Egyptian record. El Sayed splits his time between Kuortane, Finland, where his coach Petteri Piironen is based, and Cairo, where he is a student. In 2016, he tested positive for a banned substance, and was banned from the 2016 Olympics. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

She competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in the -69 kg and -75 kg weight categories, respectively, and finished in fifth place at both Games. In 2016, Abdelrahman retroactively became the first Egyptian woman to win an Olympic medal when the original gold, silver, and bronze medal winners were disqualified due to doping. Abdelrahman is now the silver medal winner for the 75 kg event in the 2012 Summer Olympics, coming second to Spain's Lidia Velentin. The first Egyptian woman to receive her Olympic medal on the podium was Sara Ahmed for her bronze medal performance in the women's 69 kg at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Amro Abdulrahman Ali El-Geziry is an American modern pentathlete. He competed for Egypt at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics and placed 32nd, 33rd and 25th, respectively. His brothers, Emad and Omar, are also Olympic pentathletes.

Sara Samir Elsayed Mohamed Ahmed is an Egyptian weightlifter who won a bronze medal in the women's 69 kg event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Originally from the Ismailia Governorate, Ahmed was encouraged to take part in weightlifting by her family and was competing internationally by 2012. At the senior level, she has earned gold medals at the Mediterranean and African Games, as well as the Arab Championships. In Rio, she became the first Arab woman to receive an Olympic weightlifting medal and the first Egyptian woman to receive an Olympic medal on the podium in any discipline.
Ahmed Kotb, or Ahmed El-Kotb, is an Egyptian indoor volleyball player. Since 2008 he is a member of the Egypt men's national volleyball team, where he goes by the nickname Kotb. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2014 World Championships.
Ahmed El-Attar is an Egyptian handball player. He competed for Egypt's national team at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.
