Ainara Osoro Txurruka (born in Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas on 7 April 1987) is a Basque political scientist, sociologist, professor and politician.

Biography and career

Ainara Osoro was born in Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas (Basque Country) on 7 April 1987. She studied a degree in political and administration sciences at the University of the Basque Country. She graduated first of her class, top honours and was awarded the Bachelor's Degree Extraordinary Award. She later completed a master's degree in work and social policies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). [1]

He completed doctoral studies in political science, in the branch of public administration sciences, at the University of the Basque Country and at the Bordeaux Montaigne University (France). She was a university researcher in the department of sociology and social work of the University of the Basque Country and in the research centre Sinnergiak Social Innovation Centre (Innobasque). [2] [3] [4] Osoro was one of the researchers who participated in the creation of the “European Guide to Social Innovation” of the European Union, presented by the European Commission at the European Conference of Social Innovation. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] She is specialized in public administration sciences and administration innovation. She is a full member of the College of Professionals of Political Science and Sociology of Catalonia. [10]

She has also worked in the field of volunteering, collaborating with the Emmaús Social Foundation. In 2012 she was living and working in Peru for almost a year, working in the social field. [11]

She has lived in Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas (Basque Country), Barcelona (Catalonia), France and Peru (South America). [11]

Political career

In the 2023 Spanish local elections, Osoro was a candidate for councillor of the Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas City Council, for the EH Bildu coalition, with Unai Larreategi as a candidate for mayor of Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas. [12] [13] The coalition obtained an absolute majority of votes and Osoro was elected councillor. [14] [15]

In the 2023-2027 legislature, Unai Larreategi (EH Bildu) was elected mayor of Soraluze-Placencia de las Armas, succeeding Iker Aldazabal (PNV). [16] [17] In this legislature, Osoro served as person in charge and spokesperson for equality and youth. [18] [19] [20] Among her measures were, among others, the creation and promotion of the Soraluze Women's Empowerment School, to help women develop a gender perspective and reclaim their rights. [19]

The 2016 Basque regional election was held on Sunday, 25 September 2016, to elect the 11th Parliament of the Basque Autonomous Community. All 75 seats in the Parliament were up for election. The election was held simultaneously with a regional election in Galicia. Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu announced that the election would be held one month ahead of schedule, on 25 September 2016, based on the "climate of ungovernability" affecting national politics as a result of the ongoing Spanish government formation negotiations, intending to move the regional election as far away as possible from a possible new general election. This prompted Galician president Alberto Núñez Feijóo to hold the Galician regional election in the same date.

Republics Now is an electoral alliance formed for the 2019 European Parliament election in Spain by Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC), Basque Country Gather and Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) and with Oriol Junqueras as its leading candidate. The second list candidate was Diana Riba. The following candidates on the list were shared between EH Bildu, BNG and ERC. Moreover, Andecha Astur, Puyalón de Cuchas, Canarian Nationalist Alternative, National Congress of the Canaries and Unity of the People also participated in the candidature. It is a successor to The Left for the Right to Decide and The Peoples Decide coalitions in the 2014 election. ERC said that the alliance is open to other "Souverainist, republican and progressive forces".
