Ainias Smith (born May 31, 2001) is an American professional football running back and wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Texas A&M.

Early life

Smith grew up in Missouri City, Texas and attended John Foster Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas. [1] As a senior, he rushed for 481 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 55 passes for 717 yards and 10 touchdowns. [2] Smith committed to play college football at Texas A&M over Duke. [3] [4]

College career

As a freshman, Smith played mostly wide receiver and served as the team's primary return specialist and had 22 receptions for 248 yards and three touchdowns. [5] [6] He played running back in the 2019 Texas Bowl and rushed for 54 yards on seven carries in a 24-21 win over Oklahoma State. [7] Smith was moved to running back before the start of his sophomore season. [8] He finished the season with 293 yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries and also caught 43 passes for a team-leading 564 receiving yards with six touchdown receptions. Smith was named to the watchlist for the Hornung Award going into his junior season. [9]

Smith was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 152nd pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft. [13] He was placed on injured reserve on August 27, 2024. [14] He was activated on October 26. [15] Smith made his debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars with him catching one pass for no gain and rushing once for 2 yards.

Personal life

Smith is the younger brother of NFL defensive back Maurice Smith. [16] On July 20, 2022, Smith was arrested into Brazos County, Texas on three charges: unlawful carrying of a weapon, driving while intoxicated, and possession of marijuana. [17]

The 2007 Texas A&M Aggies football team represented Texas A&M University in the 2007 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Dennis Franchione, who had coached at A&M since the 2003 season, but resigned at the conclusion of the annual game with the Texas Longhorns. The Aggies were led on offense by junior quarterback Stephen McGee. The team played their home games at Kyle Field, an 82,600-person capacity stadium on A&M's campus in College Station, Texas. The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band performs at all home games and select away games during half-time.

Jerrod Terrel Johnson is an American professional football coach and former player who is the quarterbacks coach for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). He played quarterback at Texas A&M. Johnson was Texas A&M's starting quarterback from 2008 to 2010, finishing his collegiate career ranked first in school history with 8,011 passing yards and 8,888 yards total offense. He is currently second in school history in passing yards and third in total offense. Johnson was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2011 and would play in the NFL for six seasons with the Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys. Johnson's coaching career began in 2017; he held various assistant coaching roles on the San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans.
