Charles Harris (born March 6, 1995) is an American professional football linebacker for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Missouri Tigers and was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.
Harris attended Lincoln College Preparatory Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. As a junior, he had 40 tackles and six sacks and as a senior had 60 tackles and 12 sacks. [1] He also had 15 receptions for 285 and five touchdowns. He committed to the University of Missouri to play college football. [2] Harris also played basketball in high school and took boxing classes. [3]
After redshirting his first year at Missouri in 2013, Harris appeared in all 14 games as a redshirt freshman in 2014, recording 19 tackles and two sacks. [4] Harris took over as a starter in 2015 and had 56 tackles and seven sacks. [5] [6]
Harris was invited to the NFL Combine and completed all the drills except for the short shuttle and three cone drill. He participated at Missouri's Pro Day and chose to perform positional drills and the short shuttle, three cone drill, vertical jump, and broad jump. Going into the draft, he was projected to be a first or second round pick by NFL draft experts and analysts. [7] He was ranked the seventh best edge rusher by Sports Illustrated , the third best linebacker by ESPN, and was ranked the fifth best defensive end by NFL analyst Bucky Brooks, Mike Mayock, and NFLDraftScout.com. The Miami Dolphins selected Harris in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2017 NFL draft. [14]
On May 1, 2020, the Dolphins traded Harris to the Atlanta Falcons for a 2021 seventh-round draft pick. [15] The next day, the Falcons declined the fifth-year option on Harris' contract, making him a free agent in 2021. In Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football , Harris was ejected from the game after hitting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's head while he was sliding. [16]
On March 19, 2021, Harris signed with the Detroit Lions. [17]
On March 18, 2022, Harris signed a two-year, $13 million contract extension with the Lions. [18] He was placed on injured reserve on November 28. [19]
On September 11, 2024, Harris signed with the Carolina Panthers. [20]
Bruce Pernell Irvin Jr. is an American professional football linebacker who is a free agent. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round with the 15th overall pick of the 2012 NFL draft. Irvin won Super Bowl XLVIII over the Denver Broncos, and also played in Super Bowl XLIX where he became the first player ever to be ejected from a Super Bowl. He played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Dontari Poe is an American former football nose tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. He played college football at Memphis and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs 11th overall in the 2012 NFL draft. Reggie Keith Ragland Jr. is an American professional football linebacker who is a free agent. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, winning two national championships. He was then drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft. In 2016, he missed his rookie season after being placed on injured reserve with a torn ACL. During the 2017 season, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for a fourth round pick in the 2019 draft. On January 6, 2018, Ragland started his first career playoff game, registering nine tackles during the team's 22–21 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Two years later he won his first Super Bowl, recording two tackles when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
