Akshay Das (born 4 January 1977) is an Indian football coach and former footballer who played as a midfielder. [1] [2] He is currently the head coach of the Odisha football team. He has also represented India at the youth level internationally.
Das represented local clubs in Odisha before playing for SAIL club in the Calcutta Football League. Das later went to play for the major Kolkata club East Bengal for the two seasons from 1999 till 2001 and later returned to play during the 2004 season. [1] He won the Durand Cup in the 2004 edition for East Bengal which defeated their rivals Mohun Bagan in the final. [3]
He has also played for major clubs like Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa in the Goa league and has also played for Eveready SC and Mohammedan SC.
Das represented the state team of Odisha in the Santosh Trophy in the 2004, 2005 and 2008 editions. [1]
Das was selected for the Indian youth team that toured Mauritius in 1999. He represented the Indian U19 team at the 2000 AFC Youth Championship qualifiers held at Sri Lanka in 2000. [4]
Das was appointed the assistant coach of the Odisha team for the 2013–14 Santosh Trophy season and served under the head coach R. P. Singh. [5] The following season, Das was appointed the head coach of the Odisha team for the 2014–15 Santosh Trophy. In 2023, he was re-appointed as the head coach of Odisha for the 2023–24 Santosh Trophy. He is serving as the senior coach of the Tata Football Academy [2] and Jamshedpur FC Youth. [7]
East Bengal
Subhash Bhowmick was an Indian football player and manager. During his playing career, he represented the "Big Two" of Kolkata football, East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. He also represented India in various international tournaments between 1970 and 1985.
Pradip Kumar BanerjeeFIFAOM was an Indian professional footballer who played as a striker for the India national football team. He also captained the national team and later on became the coach of the national team. He represented India in 52 official matches and scored 16 official goals for the country. He was one of the first recipients of Arjuna Award, when the awards were instituted in 1961. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990 and was named Indian Footballer of the 20th century by IFFHS. In 2004, he was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, the highest honour awarded by FIFA.
Sudip Chatterjee, nicknamed Tulu, was an Indian international football player and coach. He started his career as a centre back and then moved to the right back position before switching to the midfielder role. As a midfielder, he was considered among the finest players in Indian football. He also managed Bengal in Santosh Trophy and won the 1998–99 edition.
Havildar Peter Thangaraj was an Indian football player and a non-commissioned officer in the Indian Army. Thangaraj played for the Indian national side at the 1956 Melbourne and 1960 Rome Olympics. He was voted Asia's best goalkeeper in 1958. Thangaraj was a recipient of Arjuna Award for the year 1967.

The 2019 Durand Cup was the 129th edition of the Durand Cup, oldest football tournament in Asia, since the tournament's founding in 1888. 16 teams competed in the tournament. The matches were played across three locations in West Bengal, namely Kolkata, Howrah and Kalyani from 2 August 2019. The final took place at the Salt Lake Stadium on 24 August 2019.

The 2022–23 season was the 103rd season of East Bengal Football Club and their third season in the Indian Super League, the top flight of Indian football. The Indian football season started in August and ended in April.
