Al-Junoob Sport Club (Arabic : نادي الجنوب الرياضي), is an Iraqi football club based in Basra, that plays in Iraqi Second Division League.

History

Al-Junoob Sports Club was founded in 1952 by Mr. Abboud Al Shubbar, who was chosen as the club president at the beginning of its foundation by members of the General Assembly, which was made up of 72 members. Then Mr. Kadhim Jbarah became the club's president from 1953 to 1969, during which time sports teams were formed: football, basketball, volleyball, boxing, weightlifting, bodybuilding, table tennis, badminton, and cycling team, with the number of club members increasing to 250. In the 1980s, women's sports teams were formed. [1] [2]

Stadium

In 2015, the club's building and infrastructures were rebuilt, including the rehabilitation of a Al-Junoob stadium with a capacity of 1,000 spectators. [3]

The 2022–23 season will be Al-Minaa's first season in the Iraq Division One since the 1989–90 season and their third overall, having been relegated from the Iraqi Premier League in the 2021–22 season. Al-Minaa are participating in the Iraq Division One and the Iraq FA Cup.

The 2022–23 Iraqi First Division League was the 49th season of what is now called the Iraqi Premier Division League, the second tier of the Iraqi football league system, since its establishment in 1974. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons. The top two teams are promoted to the Iraq Stars League, while the bottom two teams in each group are directly relegated to the Iraqi Second Division League.

Al-Minaa Football Club Academy is the youth system of Al-Minaa Football Club based in Al Maqal, Basra, Iraq. The academy teams play in the Iraqi Youth League, the highest level of youth football in Iraq. The club also competes in the Basra Clubs Youth League. Former player Mohammed Abdul Hussein is the current academy manager.

Fatat Al-Basra Sport Club, is an Iraqi women's multi-sport club based in Al-Ashar, Basra. The club's fencing team is the best, as it won the Iraqi Elite League.

The 2023–24 season will be Al-Minaa's first season in the newly-formed Iraq Stars League, and their 47th season in the top division of Iraq football.
