Albany railway station is a railway station in Albany, Western Australia.
It was constructed in 1888 by the Great Southern Land Company. [1]
It was a passenger railway station on the Western Australian Government Railways services, from 1961 until the end of the running of the Albany Progress in 1978.
It is often included in pictures of Stirling Terrace and of the jetties and facilities of the Port of Albany. [2]
Following reduction in rail services, various proposals were investigated, and the railway station precinct was assessed for heritage status. [3]
The station is both a heritage listed structure, and it was a tourist information centre and Transwa bus terminal. [4]
Albany is a port city in the Great Southern region in the Australian state of Western Australia, 418 kilometres (260 mi) southeast of Perth, the state capital. The city centre is at the northern edge of Princess Royal Harbour, which is a part of King George Sound. The central business district is bounded by Mount Clarence to the east and Mount Melville to the west. The city is in the local government area of the City of Albany. While it is the oldest colonial, although not European, settlement in the territory that today is Western Australia, predating Perth and Fremantle by over two years, it was a semi-exclave of New South Wales for over four years until it was made part of the Swan River Colony.
Armadale is a suburb of Perth within the City of Armadale, located on the south-eastern edge of the Perth metropolitan region. The major junction of the South Western and Albany Highways, which connect Perth with the South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia respectively, is located within the suburb. Rylstone railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station on the Gwabegar railway line at Rylstone, Mid-Western Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia. Although it closed to regular passenger services in 1985, it is planned to restore a tourist service between Kandos and Rylstone in late 2018. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.
