The Alberta School for the Deaf is a provincial school in Edmonton, Alberta with elementary and secondary residential and day programs serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students. [2]

Teachers are both deaf and hearing. Alberta School for the Deaf is modeled on a bilingual-bicultural approach. [3] The total enrollment, including the elementary school, is 100 as of 2020–21. Students from across Alberta and the Northwest Territories attend the school. [1]

Deaf students from Canada often attend Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. for post-secondary programs.[ citation needed ]

Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Education Association (ECBEA) is a non-profit educational society working to promoting the learning of the Chinese language in school along with the regular school curriculum through a bilingual education program located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The program is unique in North America as it exists alongside the regular school curriculum and offers a complete continuum of studies from Kindergarten all the way to High School graduation. The Ukrainian Bilingual Program (UBP) is part of some Alberta school board's education. The programme was introduced in Edmonton in both school systems at the same time. There was no 10 year difference. After initially being in Edmonton it then expanded to Vegreville 1978 and Sherwood Park1979, both school systems and Lamont1980. Ukrainian as a Second Language has been taught as 9yr, 6yr and 3 yr programmes in rural Alberta. There was also a locally developed programme from Gd 1 in the County of Two Hills.

Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) is a private day school serving deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through grade 8 on the campus of Gallaudet University in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Alongside Model Secondary School for the Deaf, it is a federally funded, tuition-free demonstration school administered by the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University.

Dr. Laurene Simms is a Deaf American educator and advocate. She is the Chief Bilingual Officer at Gallaudet University.
