He was also a longtime men's basketball coach at South Carolina State University. In April 2003, after 16 seasons at SCSU, Alexander moved to coach Tennessee State University. Alexander was fired as coach of TSU in February 2009. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He served as the head coach at Alabama State University (1963), Alcorn State University (1964–1985), and Southern University, compiling a career record of 159–93–8. Casem's Alcorn State Braves teams won four black college national championships and seven Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) titles. Casem also served as the athletic director at Alcorn State from 1966 to 1986 and at Southern from 1986 to 1999. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.

He served as the head football coach at Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama from 1937 to 1940, Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio in 1947, Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College—now known as Alcorn State University—Claiborne County, Mississippi from 1948 to 1956, and Bishop College in Marshall, Texas and Dallas from 1957 to 1973. Fisher was also the head basketball coach at Alabama A&M from 1937 to 1939 and Alcorn A&M from 1948 to 1956.

Nathaniel Archibald was an American basketball player. He is best known for his collegiate career with the Alcorn State Braves, with whom he was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Year as a junior in 1973. He earned back-to-back first-team all-SWAC honors during his final two seasons. During his college career, Archibald scored 1,240 points and grabbed 968 rebounds. He went on to attend graduate school at Alcorn State University and spent time as an assistant coach for the basketball team.
