Alejandro Ariel Montecchia (born 1972) is an Argentine retired professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position. [1]
In his pro career, Montecchia won the South American League and Argentine League championships in 1996. He also won the European-wide 2nd-tier level EuroCup championship in the 2002–03 season. He was the South American League's MVP in 2008.
Montecchia was a regular on Argentina's senior national team, with which he won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
Javier Alejandro Mascherano is an Argentine professional football coach and former player. As a player, he played as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, most notably for Liverpool, Barcelona and the Argentina national team. He is regarded as one of the best defenders and midfielders of his generation.
Fabricio Raúl Jesús Oberto is an Argentine-Italian color analyst and former professional basketball player. At 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m), he played as a center and power forward. With the LNB club Atenas, in his native Argentina, Oberto began playing professionally in 1993, and later played overseas with teams in Spain and Greece. In 2005, Oberto signed with the San Antonio Spurs, a team of the American National Basketball Association (NBA), and won a championship with the Spurs in 2007. He is also a former member of the senior Argentina national basketball team, with whom he won two Olympic medals, including a gold medal in 2004.
Juan Ignacio Sánchez Brown, commonly known as Pepe Sánchez, is an Argentine former professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position. He was a part of Argentina's 2004 Olympic gold medal team. Pepe Sánchez was the first Argentine to play in the NBA. He played two seasons in the NBA, playing in a total of 38 games with the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, and the Detroit Pistons, averaging only 5 minutes per game. He also played with the Golden State Warriors, during the NBA preseason. In 2010 he won the Konex Award as one of the five best Basketball Players from the last decade in Argentina.
Alejandro Javier Sabella was an Argentine football player and manager. Born in Buenos Aires, he began his playing career with River Plate in his home country before moving to England in 1978 to play for Sheffield United. Olimpia Basketball Club, commonly known as Olimpia de Venado Tuerto is an Argentine professional basketball club, that is based in the city of Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe Province.
The 1996 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol, or 1996 FIBA South American League, was the first edition of the second-tier tournament for professional basketball clubs from South America. The tournament began on 6 February 1996 and finished on 1 May 1996. Argentine club Olimpia won the tournament, defeating Brazilian club Corinthians in the Grand Finals.
