The South American Basketball Championship, or FIBA South American Championship, was the main FIBA tournament for men's national teams from South America's region of FIBA Americas. The tournament was first played in 1930. [1] The tournament often has been played biannually, but the last took place in 2016. It has been largely supplanted by the FIBA AmeriCup.

This FIBA AmeriCup tournament was held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from August 30 to September 11, 2011. Argentina won the title, defeating Brazil, 80–75, in the final match. This was the country's second AmeriCup championship.

Marcos Daniel Mata is an Argentine professional basketball player. He is a small forward, but he can also play at the shooting guard position. He plays professionally for Boca Juniors, and has also been a member of the senior men's Argentine national basketball team.

The South American Under-17 Championship for Women is a basketball tournament held about every two years among the ten countries of South America and is organized in part by FIBA Americas. The tournament serves as a gateway to the FIBA Under-18 Women's AmeriCup. Through 2023, the tournament had been held 22 times.
