The FIBA Under-16 AmeriCup, previously known as the FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship, is the Americas basketball championship for under-16 national teams that takes place every two years in the FIBA Americas zone. The event started in 2009. The top four finishers qualify for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup.

The games were played at the Estadio Ruca Che, Neuquén. This FIBA AmeriCup was to earn berths at the 2002 FIBA World Championship, in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Argentina won the tournament, the country's first AmeriCup championship. The United States performed poorly at this tournament, mainly because it sent in junior players.
