Alessio Lorandi (born 8 September 1998) is an Italian former racing driver.
At age 6, he got started in karting and he did it professionally up until 2014, before moving up to FIA Formula 3 in 2015.
Among the many achievements, Alessio became World Champion in 2013 and won 8 WSK races.
He then scored several podiums between FIA F3 and GP3, with a prestigious win at the Pau Grand Prix in 2016 and Race 2 at Jerez in GP3.
He didn't get the founding to compete properly in Formula 2 (he just replace Santino Ferrucci for 5 races at Trident) or in GT3 (only 3 races).
He's now involved in managing BabyRace Driver Academy and coaches drivers online through his platform, Senndit.
Lorandi began his racing career in karting in 2004 with BabyRace, the team founded by his father, Sandro, and won multiple series over the years including:
- 1x CIK-FIA World Championsip
- 8x WSK Wins
- 2x Winter Cup
- 1x Copa De Campeones
- 2x Italian Championsips
- 3x Trofeo Margutti
- 1x Trofeo Industrie
- 1x Bridgestone Cup
In 2015, Lorandi debuted in open-wheel racing, straight from karting, in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing. [1] He was Charles Leclerc's teammate.
The following year, he switched to Carlin and claimed his maiden victory at the prestigious Pau Grand Prix. [2] [3]
Lorandi made his debut in the series at the final two rounds of the 2016 season with Jenzer Motorsport. [4] In 2017, he reunited with the team to contest the series full-time. He got 4 podiums & 1 win in Jerez. [5]
In July 2018, Lorandi was called up to be a temporary replacement for Santino Ferrucci at Trident's Formula 2 team, after Ferrucci aggressively crashed into his team-mate Arjun Maini on the cool-down lap at the 2018 Silverstone FIA Formula 2 round. This replacement was set to last for four races. But shortly after the Trident team chose to sack Ferrucci due to unsportsmanlike behaviour, resulting in Lorandi replacing Ferrucci for the remainder of the season.
Lorandi's younger brother Leonardo Lorandi is also a racing driver.
