Aletheian are a Christian progressive/melodic death metal band. They formed in Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1997 under the name Crutch, and then changed their name to "Aletheian" prior to the 2003 album Apolutrosis. Guitarist Alex Kenis joined Becoming the Archetype in 2007. In the early 2007, Aletheian signed to IronClad Recordings, an imprint of Metal Blade Records.

Biography

Aletheian was originally formed under the name Crutch in 1997. With the lineup of Alex Kenis on guitars, Keith Isenberg on bass, Vinnie Aldrich on vocals, and Bryan Clarkson on drums, the band began writing material. The early material was very metalcore oriented rather than what the band became known for later. [3] Aldrich did not remain in the band for very long, with the position being filled by Joel Thorpe who would record on the band's debut album, Crutch. [4] Following that, an EP was being written, initially titled Annealed by Animosity, which they changed to Transitions. [5] Clarkson would leave the band, with Travis Turner taking over the position. [3] Donny Swigart would also join the band at this time, in 1999. [6] Turner joined the band by recommendation of his cousin, Stephen Sarro of Tantrum of the Muse, which led to him and Kenis speaking over the phone about his influences which included Cephalic Carnage and Damn the Machine. [7] Influenced by Death, Cynic, Carcass, Emperor, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, and At the Gates, [8] the band began to shift their style in that direction. [3] [7] They later released their debut, ...Hope Prevails, independently in 2001.[ citation needed ] The album was re-released on Burning Records, a label created by Mike Fealko of the hardcore punk and metalcore band Vessel, in 2002. [9]

The group changed its name to Aletheian, a derivation of the Greek word for "truth", in the sense of "discovering", in 2003 when the band underwent a major line-up change acquiring two new members and made the decision to take the band to the touring level for the first time. [7] Isenberg had departed from the band due to family matters, as had Turner, whose wife was pregnant with twins at the time. [7] The style and material of the band did not change with the name, combining elements of technical, progressive, Scandinavian, and melodic death metal. Apolutrosis, a full-length Concept album, pre-release made available independently in 2003. [3] The album was initially supposed to be released as an EP, however, Century Media Records was interested in the band at the time, but only if they recorded a full-length. [3] This led the band to record several instrumental tracks in addition to the four tracks they had finished. [7] Following the album being recorded, Century Media was no longer interested. [3] It was re-mixed and re-mastered for full-release in 2004 on Hope Prevails Productions.[ citation needed ] The same year ...Hope Prevails was partially re-recorded, re-mixed, re-mastered, and re-released with updated artwork and the name Aletheian on Hope Prevails Productions. Dying Vine was Recorded, mixed, and mastered at Studio Insomnia. [10] The album was delayed severely due to Kenis injuring his hand with a box-cutter knife. [11] Kenis also produced, sound teched, engineered, mixed, and mastered the album on top of performing guitars and bass on it. [10] The album was released in July 2005 by Hope Prevails Productions. [10] In 2005, the band released Aletheian Live DVD, featuring two hours of edited live concert footage, concept music video, behind-the-scenes recording documentary, and more.[ citation needed ] Aletheian has contributed two songs, "Break in the Clouds" and "Exaleipheian", recorded live in Ohio for Spindust Records' DVD compilation video 10/20 Underground Rock Show in 2004.[ citation needed ]

Aletheian has played festivals such as March Metal Meltdown, MACRoCk, Sick as Sin, Metal Mindrage, Ichthus, and Cornerstone Festival as well as with bands such as Cephalic Carnage, Becoming the Archetype, Biohazard, Buried Alive, Antithesis, Withered Earth, Disgorge, Zao, Living Sacrifice, Society's Finest, Tantrum of the Muse, and Underoath, among others. [8] In early 2007, Aletheian signed to IronClad Recordings, an imprint of Metal Blade Records. [12] In 2008, the band performed at Cornerstone with a lineup of Thorpe, Kenis, a returning Turner, Chris Keeney on guitar, and Andy High on bass. [7] Following that show, however, the band embarked on an indefinite hiatus. [7]

In 2016, Alex Kenis did an interview on Shoot the Shred Podcast, stating he had written all of the songs for an upcoming album but has been unable to record it due to "life happening". [13] According to Turner, who remains in contact with Kenis, the new material is not likely to be finished, but he cannot confirm it will never happen. [7]

Cephalic Carnage is an American death metal band formed in Denver, Colorado in 1992. The band comprises vocalist Lenzig Leal, guitarists Steve Goldberg and Brian Hopp, drummer John Merryman and bassist Nick Schendzielos. In 2008, Living Sacrifice reformed and released a two-song digital only single called Death Machine. They then began working on The Infinite Order which was released on January 26, 2010. Lance Garvin and Bruce Fitzhugh are the two remaining original members.

Becoming the Archetype American Christian metal band

Becoming the Archetype was an American Christian metal band formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1999. They have released five albums on Solid State Records. Dichotomy, which was released in November 2008, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan. The CD debuted at No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the top 100 of the Billboard 200. The band was part of the new wave of American heavy metal. After 2012's I Am, the band went on an indefinite hiatus.

Narcissus was an influential American hardcore band formed by John LaRussa and John Pope in 1998 in Canton, Ohio. Not counting John Pope and John LaRussa (Guitar), who were in the band from start to finish, members included, at various times, Justin Carroll (bass), Ray Taylor, Derek Carter (percussion), Bill Wensel (percussion), Stephen Cushman (percussion) and Josh King (bass). The band was on the now-defunct label Takehold Records before joining Century Media. A few albums were re-released through Tooth & Nail. Before breaking up the band were featured on The Vans Warped tour and were getting ready to hit Europe for their international release of Crave and Collapse, which was received well over seas. They announced that they have reunited and become a band again in 2020 after John Pope and John LaRussa were offered a spot on the famous Furnace Fest, performing on day 1, September 24th, 2021 along with bands Converge, Glassjaw, Killswitch Engage, Everytime I Die and many others. They performed their first show on September 11, 2021.

<i>The Physics of Fire</i> 2007 studio album by Becoming the Archetype

The Physics of Fire is the second album by the progressive death metal band Becoming the Archetype. Released on May 8, 2007, the album features a departure from the band's previous metalcore sound and shifts to a more progressive death metal sound. While the metalcore influences are still there, they are not as prominent as they were on Terminate Damnation. This is also the first and only album featuring Aletheian guitarist Alex Kenis.

<i>Dying Vine</i> 2005 studio album by Aletheian

Dying Vine is a 2005 studio album by the band Aletheian. The band re-released the album in 2008 under their label, IronClad Records, a branch of Metal Blade Records. In 2015 the band re-released the album a third time for the original ten year anniversary on their Bandcamp page. The first re-release also featured a cover of the song "How Could I" by the band Cynic.

Bruce Fitzhugh is the second and best known lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and founding member of Arkansas's Christian metal band Living Sacrifice. The lead vocalist role was left to Bruce shortly after the departure of former lead Darren Johnson and prior to the recording of Living Sacrifice's 1997 album, Reborn. Fitzhugh is featured in Zao's The Lesser Lights of Heaven DVD. Fitzhugh's nephew is Drew Garrison, Vocalist for Descended From Wolves and Becoming Saints.

Jason Wisdom Musical artist

Jason Wisdom is the former lead vocalist and bass guitarist for the Christian progressive death metal band Becoming the Archetype. Though he was born and raised in a Christian home, he states that he was never committed to Christianity until high school. He considers his music as a form of ministry, but wishes to avoid a "preachy" stereotype. His influences include Extol, Living Sacrifice, and Mortification among others. Wisdom is an avid fan of metal music, and Christian metal in particular. He notes that even though his music is Christian metal, many of his fans are not Christians and are many times the ones who defend his music. Wisdom left the band in late November 2011 to take care of his family. Though current 7 Horns 7 Eyes frontman, JJ Polachek, tried out, Wisdom was replaced by former live fill in, Chris McCane. He has recently started a solo project titled Death Therapy, which features no guitars. He currently works for RYFO, a company that helps musicians with places to stay, meals and other such things.

Havok (band)

Havok is an American thrash metal band from Denver, Colorado, formed in 2004. As of 2021, their current lineup consists of David Sanchez, Pete Webber (drums) and Reece Scruggs. They have gone through a number of personnel changes, with each album featuring a different lineup, and leaving Sanchez as the only remaining original member left in the band.

Death Therapy

Death Therapy is a Christian metal band from Atlanta, Georgia. The project was formed in 2015 by Jason Wisdom, the former bassist and vocalist of Becoming the Archetype. The band has since signed with Solid State Records and have released three albums, The Storm Before the Calm, Voices, Melancholy Machines, and a demo.

Klank American heavy metal band

Klank, also stylized as kLaNk or KLANK, is an American industrial metal and groove metal band that originated out of Long Island, New York in December 1993. The project began after Daren Diolosa, the brainchild of Klank, departed from the fellow industrial band Circle of Dust. Diolosa carried the project as a solo project until around 1997, when he began performing live. Following the live performances, Pat Servideo joined as a full-time member, with Diolosa and Servideo joining as a team. The band would go through many members, eventually settling on the lineup of Diolosa, Servideo, and former Every Day Life drummer Eric Wilkins.
