Alex Bogusky is a designer, marketer, author, and consumer advocate; and was an advertising executive and principal of the firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky. Bogusky left CP+B in 2010. [1] In July 2010, he retired from the advertising industry. [2] In October 2010, he announced via Twitter that he would be leaving self-created post of "chief insurgent officer" at advertising holding company MDC Partners to now being the lead "insurgent in the new consumer revolution" at his new venture, FearLess Cottage. [3] Bogusky has since returned to CP+B under the title "chief creative engineer." In January 2020 he announced that he will leave CPB gradually over the next couple of months. [4]
Alex Bogusky was born on July 31, 1963, in Miami, Florida. He attended North Miami Elementary School and graduated from North Miami Senior High School in 1981. His father Bill Bogusky and his uncle Albert Bogusky, ran Miami-based design shop, The Brothers Bogusky. His mother Dixie, was an art director for several magazines until she eventually joined the family design business. Alex is married and has two children.
Bogusky was the 16th employee of advertising agency Crispin Porter in 1989. He became Creative Director of the agency five years later, was named a partner in 1997 and became Co-Chairman in January 2008. [5]
In 2002, he was inducted into the American Advertising Federation's Hall of Achievement. In 2009 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Colorado Boulder. He was also named Creative Director of the Decade in Adweek magazine's Best of 2000s issue.
Bogusky was the Chief Creative Officer of MDC Partners Inc. from January to July 2010. [6]
Bogusky partnered with SodaStream International in 2012 to design a 30-second TV commercial promoting sustainability. The ad showed thousands of soda bottles exploding while people make drinks using their Sodastream machines. It was banned in the United Kingdom on account of being deemed "a denigration of the bottled drinks market." A version of the commercial is expected to be shown at Super Bowl XLVII in February 2013. After an eight-year hiatus from Crispen Porter + Bogusky, Bogusky returned as chief creative engineer in 2018 [13] in a move to revitalize the agency and redefine advertising. In January 2020 he announced that he will leave CPB gradually over the next couple of months.
From his base at the FearLess Cottage in Boulder, CO, Bogusky has expanded his role as brand advocate to also being a consumer and social advocate. [14] In 2010 and 2011, he broadcast a live-streaming online talk show to discuss what he sees as a new relationship between people, brands and culture. This new relationship emphasizes transparency, sustainability, democracy and collaboration among businesses and consumers.
In October, 2010, Bogusky called on the public to help write a new Consumer Bill of Rights for the 21st Century. [15]
Partnering with friend Rob Schuham and his wife Ana Bogusky, the FearLess Cottage serves as a creative consultancy, business incubator, and media laboratory.
In January 2011, Bogusky and Schuham partnered with designer John Bielenberg to launch COMMON, a creative community for accelerating social ventures under the shared values of a unified brand. [16] COMMON is described as part community, part business prototyper, and part collaborative brand; a network of creative people prototyping progressive ventures designed to solve social problems. In January 2014, Bogusky joined with Toby Krout, Stephen Groth and Jose Vieitez to launch Boomtown Boulder, a Colorado based Seed accelerator aimed at funding and developing startups in the industries of internet, mobile and software — particularly firms in the media, design, marketing and ad tech sectors. Bogusky has a YouTube channel providing lessons to the over 40's called Joy of Bike, which includes guest appearances from various MTBers and MTB teachers including Lee McCormack. [19]

The Subservient Chicken is an advertising program created to promote international fast food restaurant chain Burger King's TenderCrisp chicken sandwich and their "Have it Your Way" campaign. Created for the Miami-based advertising firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B) by The Barbarian Group, the program featured a viral marketing website, television and print campaigns and a one-time pay-per-view program. The program was similar to other marketing campaigns created by CP+B for Burger King, including the Coq Roq, Ugoff, and Sith Sense.

SodaStream International Ltd. is an Israel-based manufacturing company best-known as the maker of the consumer home carbonation product of the same name. The company's soda machines, in the style of soda siphons, add carbon dioxide to water from a pressurized cylinder to create carbonated water for drinking. It also sells more than 100 types of concentrated syrups and flavourings that are used in the process of making carbonated drinks. In 2018, SodaStream distributed its products to 80,000 individual retail stores across 45 countries.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky, a member of publicly traded MDC Partners, is an American advertising agency that as of 2005 employed around 700 people. It was founded in 1988 by Sam Crispin. Crispin then became partners with Chuck Porter and Alex Bogusky. As of 2016, Porter is the only member still working for CP+B.

Lamp is a television and cinema advertisement released in September 2002 to promote the IKEA chain of furniture stores in the United States. The 60-second commercial was the first part of the "Unböring" campaign conceived by advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and follows a lamp abandoned by its owner. It was produced by the production company Morton/Jankel/Zander, and was directed by Spike Jonze. Post-production and editing was handled by Spot Welders and sound design by the California-based MIT Out Sound. The commercial aired concurrently with another IKEA piece in the same vein, titled Moo Cow. Lamp, and its associated campaign, was a popular, critical, and financial success. Sales of IKEA furniture increased by eight percent during the period in which the commercial ran, and Lamp received a number of awards, including a Grand Clio and the Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, considered the most prestigious accolade granted by the advertising community.
Chuck Porter is an American advertising executive, marketer and author. He is co-founder and chairman of the advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky (CP+B) and chief strategist for its holding company, MDC Partners. A Presidents Club member at the University of Minnesota, Porter funds a student award in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and was formerly board chairman of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s).

The Real Bears is an anti-soft-drink advertising campaign by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, which debuted in October 2012. It is a parody of the Coca-Cola Company's ad campaigns depicting polar bears, in particular the "Open Happiness" ads, and was produced with the help of Alex Bogusky. Michael Jacobson said that the ad was "...our attempt to reposition soft drinks from a source of happiness to a major cause of disease." CSPI chose Bogusky to direct the ad because, they said, they had long admired his work in creating anti-tobacco ads through his agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky. The song playing throughout the CSPI ad is by Jason Mraz and is entitled "Sugar." The ad depicts polar bears suffering from a wide variety of health problems as a result of soda consumption, such as type II diabetes and erectile dysfunction. In response to the ad, Coca-Cola spokeswoman Susan Stribling stated that the ad was "irresponsible and the usual grandstanding from CSPI,” and Karen Hanretty, a spokeswoman for the American Beverage Association, noted that soda consumption has decreased over the last decade or so, whereas obesity rates have still risen over the same time period, saying, "CSPI is better at producing videos than they are doing math." The video has over 2 million views on YouTube.

The agency was founded in late 2011 by CEO John Colasanti, President Corey Johnson and Executive Creative Directors Eric Sorensen and Hans Hansen. The agency is known for brand transformations and culturally-led marketing campaigns that "combine entertainment and advertising." 72andSunny won "Agency of the Year" in 2012 by Advertising Age and 2013 by Adweek. A soda machine or soda maker is a home appliance for carbonating tap water by using carbon dioxide from a pressurized cartridge. The machine is often delivered with flavorings which can be added afterwards to the carbonated water to make soda, like, for instance orange, lemon or cola flavours. Some brands are able to directly carbonate any cold beverage.
SodaStream will have a humorous commercial that promotes sustainability and takes a jab at conventional bottle and can soft-drink marketers.
