Malawi sent a delegation to compete at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States from 19 July to 4 August 1996. This was the African nation's fifth appearance at a Summer Olympic Games. The Malawian delegation consisted of two competitors in the sport of athletics; Henry Moyo failed to advance past the first round heats of the 5,000 meters, and John Mwathiwa finished 65th in the marathon.
Zhor El Kamch is a Moroccan female long-distance runner who competes in distance from 3000 metres up to the marathon. She represented her country at the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Olga Appell Avalos is an American long-distance runner from Mexico, best known for winning the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 1991 Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. She ran at the 1992 Summer Olympics the following year, but failed to finish the race. She competed for Mexico until February 25, 1994, at which point she switched allegiance to the United States. She represented her adopted country at the 1996 Summer Olympics. There she was eliminated in the qualifying heats of the women's 10,000 metres event.
James Joseph Hogan was an Irish distance runner who competed for both Ireland and Great Britain. He was born in Croom, County Limerick, Ireland. Hogan's athletic career saw him compete for Ireland at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and for Great Britain at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. He was also the only Irish athlete to win the European marathon title.
Burundi participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China from 8 to 24 August 2008. It was Burundi's fourth appearance in the summer Olympics since its debut in 1996. The Burundi team included three athletes: runners Joachim Nshimirimana and Francine Niyonizigiye, as well as swimmer Elsie Uwamahoro. Niyonizigiye, a marathon runner, was flag bearer for the opening ceremony. None of the Burundi athletes progressed further than the qualifying round.
Peter Michael Manley is a retired middle- and long-distance runner from the United States. He twice won the gold medal in the men's 3.000 metres steeplechase event at the Pan American Games: 1971 and 1975.

Sierra Leone competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This marked the nation's tenth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1968 Summer Olympics. The Sierra Leone delegation included two track and field athletes; Ibrahim Turay, a sprinter and Ola Sesay, a long jumper. Sesay and Turay were selected as flag bearers for the opening and closing ceremonies respectively. Neither of the two athletes progressed beyond the first round.

David John Black is a male retired British long-distance runner. Black competed in the marathon at the 1980 Summer Olympics. He represented England and won a silver medal in the 10,000 metres and a bronze medal in the 5,000 metres, at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand. Four years later he represented England in the 10,000 metres, at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Baba Ibrahim Suma-Keita was a Sierra Leonean long-distance runner. He competed in the marathon at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1988 Summer Olympics.
Róbert Štefko is a retired Slovak long-distance runner. He finished fourth in the 1994 European Athletics Championships – Men's 10,000 metres in a time of 28:08.02, less than 2 seconds behind the winner Abel Antón of Spain. He competed in the men's marathon at the 2000 Summer Olympics representing Slovakia and the same event at the 2004 Summer Olympics representing the Czech Republic. In April 2004, he became a Czech citizen.
Eugenia Osho-Williams is a Sierra Leonean sprinter. She competed in the 100 metres at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1984 Summer Olympics. She was the first woman to represent Sierra Leone at the Olympics.
George Branche is a Sierra Leonean Olympic middle-distance runner. He represented his country in the men's 1500 meters, men's 800 meters, and men's 4 x 400 metres relay at the 1980 Summer Olympics. His time was a 4:03.84 in the 1500, a 1:54.60 in the 800 heats, and a 3:25.00 in the relay.

Edward Eugene Mendoza is an American long-distance runner. He competed in the men's 10,000 metres at the 1976 Summer Olympics, as well as the men's marathon at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics.
