Alipate Qetaki is a Fijian lawyer,businessman,civil servant,and a former politician,who served as Attorney-General from May 1987 to September 1987 [1] and against as Attorney General and Minister for Justice in the interim Cabinet formed by Laisenia Qarase in the wake of the Fiji coup of 2000. [2] He held office till an elected government took power in September 2001.
He served as executive chairman of both the Fiji Law Reform Commission (from 2003) and the Fiji Law Revision Commission.
In August 2008,Qetaki was appointed by the military regime of Frank Bainimarama to the post of General Manager of the Native Land Trust Board, [3] replacing Semi Tabakanalagi,who died in office. [4] He held this position till April 2015,when he was succeeded by Tevita Kuruvakadua. [5] He has also been a Director of Fiji Sugar Corp. Ltd since 26 November 2008. [6]
He is a former student of Lelean Memorial and Queen Victoria Schools in Fiji and holds an LLM from the University of Edinburgh.
Mahendra Pal Chaudhry is a Fijian politician and the leader of the Fiji Labour Party. Following a historic election in which he defeated the long-time former leader,Sitiveni Rabuka,the former trade union leader became Fiji's first Indo-Fijian Prime Minister on 19 May 1999,but exactly one year later,on 19 May 2000 he and most of his Cabinet were taken hostage by coup leader George Speight,in the Fiji coup of 2000. Unable to exercise his duties,he and his ministers were sacked by President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara on 27 May;Mara intended to assume emergency powers himself but was himself deposed by the military leader,Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka is a Fijian politician,former soldier and former sportsman who has served as Prime Minister of Fiji since 24 December 2022. He was the instigator of two military coups in 1987. He was democratically elected as Prime Minister of Fiji,serving from 1992 to 1999,and again in 2022,leading a three-party coalition. He also served as Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs from 1999 to 2001,and later as Chairman of the Cakaudrove Provincial Council from 2001 to 2008.

Sir Vijay Raghubar Singh,KBE was an Indo-Fijian lawyer and politician who held Cabinet office in the 1960s and 1970s. Vijay Singh served in Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara's government in a variety of positions,including Attorney-General,and was president of the Indian Alliance,a division of the ruling Alliance Party. He quit the party in 1979 following disagreement with Alliance leadership and later joined the opposition National Federation Party. Vijay Singh was involved in the restructure of the Fiji sugar industry and was a leading member of the Jaycees movement in Fiji.
Qoriniasi Babitu Bale was a barrister,a solicitor and a politician who served twice as Fiji's Minister for Justice and Attorney-General,most recently from 2001 to 2006,when he was deposed in the military coup of 5 December. Like many of Fiji's most influential leaders,Bale was a native of Levukana Village in Vanua Balavu in the Lau Islands.
Keni Dakuidreketi is a former Fijian politician,who served as Minister for Youth,Employment Opportunities,and Minister for Sport in the interim Cabinet formed by Laisenia Qarase in the wake of the Fiji coup of 2000. He held office till an elected government took power in September 2001,then went back to running his very successful land valuation business. His friends call him Serea,after the part of Viti Levu that he hails from.
Sakiasi Iliesa Bakewa Butadroka was a Fijian politician noted for his strident ethnic nationalism. Originally elected to the House of Representatives as a member of the ruling Alliance Party in the parliamentary election of 1972,he was expelled from the Alliance for his public attacks against the presence of Persons of Indian origin (Indo-Fijians) in Fiji. He had introduced a parliamentary motion calling for a resolution stating:"That this House agrees that the time has arrived when Indians or people of Indian origin in this country be repatriated back to India and that their travelling expenses back home and compensation for their properties in this country be met by the British Government." The motion was unanimously rejected.
The Fiji Law Reform Commission is independent publicly funded commission,which helps develop and review legislation in Fiji. The Fiji Law Reform Commission Act established the Commission in 1979,to serve as an advisory body to the government and Parliament. The Commission reviews legislation and advises the lawmakers as to how to implement reforms.
Western United Front (WUF) was an ethnically Fijian political party formed prior to the 1982 elections and contested the election in coalition with the National Federation Party . The party was in response to the disenfranchisement of indigenous peoples in the Western Provinces of Viti Levu as despite the presence pf major economic drivers of the country located in their areas they lack representation on the decision making table of the country.

Ballu Khan is an Indo-Fijian businessman of New Zealand citizenry. His company,Tui Management Services,is the joint owner with the Vanua Development Corporation (VDC) of Pacific Connex (PCX),which sells SAP software and has sought to enter the 3G mobile telephony market in Fiji. VDC is the commercial wing of the Native Land Trust Board (NLTB) which administers indigenous land holdings throughout Fiji. He is also a major supporter of the Ovalau Rugby Union team.

Manikam Vasagam Pillai MBE was a Fiji Indian lawyer,football administrator,and politician. He was a supporter of the Alliance Party and in the 1968 by-elections contested the Nadi Indian Communal seat against Dr A. D. Patel,the leader of the Federation Party,but lost by 7903 votes to 2772. He later served as Attorney General of Fiji from 1981 to 1984. He then became Chairman of the Fiji Law Reform Commission,serving till 1987.
Indo-Fijians,also known as Indian Fijians,are Fijian citizens of Indian descent,and include people who trace their ancestry to various regions of India and the Indian subcontinent. Although Indo-Fijians constituted a majority of Fiji's population from 1956 through the late 1980s,discrimination and the resulting brain drain resulted in them numbering 313,798 (37.6%) out of a total of 827,900 people living in Fiji as of 2007.
Fiji's fourth constitution,the 2013 Constitution of Fiji,was signed into law by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on 6 September 2013,coming into effect immediately. It is the first to eliminate race-based electoral rolls,race-based seat quotas,district-based representation,the unelected upper chamber,and the role of the hereditary Council of Chiefs. It vests sole legislative authority in a single-chamber,50-seat,at-large Parliament,to be first convened following general elections in 2014. It is also the first ever to grant the right to multiple citizenship,and lowers the voting age to 18.
Alipate Vuate Sikivou was a Fijian politician. He served as a member of the Legislative Council from 1966 until his death in 1970.
