Almir Garnier Santos (born 22 September 1960 in Rio de Janeiro) [1] is a Brazilian Admiral of the fleet,former Commander of the Brazilian Navy from 2021 to 2023. [2]
Garnier was General-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence,the second highest office in the department. He concluded his studies at the Navy School in 1981,as the first in the Armada Corp.
As Lieutenant,he served the União and Independência frigates and the Escola Brasil ship. According to the Ministry,Garnier is Master in Operational Research and System Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School,in the United States,MBA in International Management at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and course of Politics and Maritime Strategy at the Naval War School for two years.
Garnier commanded the tanker Almirante Gastão Motta,the Center for Support of Operational Systems,the Naval Systems Analysis Center,the Naval War School and the 2nd Naval District in Salvador,Bahia. [3]
Admiral Garnier worked in the Ministry of Defence from June 2014 to January 2017 as the ministry's special military advisor,advising former ministers Celso Amorim,Jaques Wagner,Aldo Rebelo and Raul Jungmann. [4]
As Admiral of the Fleet,he had served as Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence during the administration of minister Fernando Azevedo e Silva,until 9 April 2021,when he assumed office as Commander of the Brazilian Navy. [3]
According to an accusation made by Mauro Cid,aide-de-camp of former president Jair Bolsonaro,Garnier would have accepted to participate in a coup d'état to remove justices of the Superior Electoral Court and the Supreme Federal Court and overthrow the Brazilian democracy. [4]

The Foca class,or simply F,was the first naval class of submarines operated by the Brazilian Navy. It consisted of the F1,F3 and F5 submarines designed by Italian naval engineer Cesare Laurenti and built in La Spezia,Italy. The name Foca comes from the Portuguese vessel of the class. The class was part of Brazil's 1906 naval program to acquire warships to modernize its navy. The submarines were acquired to serve as a training and maintenance platform for the crews,with few naval actions during the 19 years they were active. The navy incorporated the class on 17 July 1914 and,as a result,expanded its naval structure to house these new vessels,such as the creation of the first naval school for submariners and the incorporation of ships designed to support submarines only.
Benjamin Constant was a training ship that belonged to the Benjamin Constant-class of the Brazilian Navy. It was the first ship in the Navy to be named after Brazilian military officer Benjamin Constant and the first to be designed as a purpose-built training ship. Built in 1891 and launched in 1892,it had a 32-year long career,making dozens of instruction trips,and also securing Brazilian possession of Trindade Island. It had the nicknames "Garça Branca" and "Beijoca" (Smack). The ship was discharged from service on 22 February 1926. Its hull was destroyed by a fire in 1938. It was dismantled in 1949.
Marcos Sampaio Olsen is a Brazilian navy admiral,incumbent Brazilian Navy Commander. He joined the military career in 1979 and was declared Guard of the Navy in 1982. Olsen acted as commander of minesweeper NV Atalaia (M-17) and submarine S Tapajó and as chief mate of submarine S Tamoio and aircraft carrier NAe São Paulo.
