James Naismith was a Canadian-American physical educator, physician, Christian chaplain, and sports coach, best known as the inventor of the game of basketball. After moving to the United States, he wrote the original basketball rule book and founded the University of Kansas basketball program. Naismith lived to see basketball adopted as an Olympic demonstration sport in 1904 and as an official event at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, as well as the birth of the National Invitation Tournament (1938) and the NCAA Tournament (1939).

Almonte is a former mill town in Lanark County, in the eastern portion of Ontario, Canada. Formerly a separate municipality, Almonte is a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills, which was created on January 1, 1998, by the merging of Almonte with Ramsay and Pakenham townships. Almonte is 46 kilometres (29 mi) south-west of downtown Ottawa. Its population as recorded in the 2016 Canadian Census was 5,039.

Robert Tait McKenzie was a Canadian physician, educator, sculptor, athlete, soldier and Scouter. Born in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada, he attended McGill University in Montreal as an undergraduate and medical student, and was an instructor in its medical school beginning in 1894. In 1904, he moved to the United States to teach at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the 1930s, he returned to the county of his birth, retiring to the Mill of Kintail in Almonte.

Chinguacousy Secondary School founded in 1972, is a high school located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Since 2000, the school's enrolment has expanded with the development of the surrounding area. The school sports teams and athletic programs have won a number of OFSAA championships; wrestling, curling, and rugby (1982). Chinguacousy became competitive in basketball and has won several titles since 2000. In 2011, the Junior Boys Cross Country team won the ROPSSAA Championship for the first time since 1997. Chinguacousy currently has a SciTech Program running. From 1972 - 2016, the mascot was Chinguacousy Chiefs. In June 2016, the school changed its logo and school mascot to the Chinguacousy Timberwolves after a call to indigenous and aboriginal inclusiveness from the Peel District School Board.

Founded in 1976, the school is named after former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Pearson closed at the end of the 2017–2018 school year, with staff and students moving to M. M. Robinson High School as of September 2018.

Spread the Net is a charitable organization that aims to reduce malaria in African nations. It was co-founded by Rick Mercer, a Canadian satirist, and Belinda Stronach, a former Canadian Member of Parliament and philanthropist. A partnership with UNICEF Canada has allowed Spread the Net to achieve the goal of distributing 500,000 insecticide-treated bed nets to Liberia and Rwanda. Spread the Net now works with its partners to combat malaria. The campaign has donated over 539,000 nets since its founding.
