The fifth cycle of America's Next Top Model premiered on September 21, 2005 on UPN. Two of the judges from the previous cycle did not retain their positions on the show. Janice Dickinson was replaced by former model Twiggy, and Nolé Marin was replaced by runway coach J. Alexander.

<i>Americas Next Top Model</i> television series

America's Next Top Model is an American reality television series and interactive competition in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of "America's Next Top Model" and a chance to begin their career in the modeling industry. Created by Tyra Banks, who also serves as an executive producer, and developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris, the series premiered in May 2003, and was aired semiannually until 2012, then annually from 2013. The first six seasons were aired on UPN, before UPN merged with The WB to create The CW in 2006. The following sixteen cycles were aired on The CW until the series was first cancelled in October 2015. The series has since been revived, with cycle 24 currently airing by VH1. The series was among the highest-rated programs on UPN, and was the highest-rated show on The CW from 2007 to 2010. Advertisers paid $61,315 per 30-second slot during the 2011–12 television seasons, the highest of any series on The CW.

UPN American broadcast television network in the 1990s and 2000s

The United Paramount Network (UPN) was an American broadcast television network that launched on January 16, 1995. The network was originally owned by Chris-Craft Industries and United Television; Viacom turned the network into a joint venture in 1996 after acquiring a 50% stake in the network, and subsequently purchased Chris-Craft's remaining stake in 2000. In December 2005, UPN was spun off to CBS Corporation when Viacom split into two separate companies.

Janice Dickinson American model and actress

Janice Doreen Dickinson is an American model, photographer, author and talent agent. Initially notable as a model, she has been disputably described by herself and others as the first supermodel. One of the most successful models of the 1970s and 1980s, she also served as a judge on four cycles on America's Next Top Model beginning in 2003. She opened a modeling agency in 2005, which was documented in the reality television series The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency (2006–08).

Contents

The prizes for this cycle included a modeling contract with Ford Models, a fashion spread and cover in Elle magazine, and a US$100,000 contract with CoverGirl cosmetics. The winner of the competition was 19-year-old Nicole Linkletter from Grand Forks, North Dakota. Sixth-placer Lisa D'Amato would later claim victory as the winner of cycle 17.

CoverGirl is an American cosmetics brand founded in Maryland, United States, by the Noxzema Chemical Company and acquired by Procter & Gamble in 1989 and later acquired by Coty, Inc. in 2016. The Noxell Company advertised this cosmetics line by allowing "cover girls", models, actresses, and singers who appear on the front cover of women's magazines, to wear its products. CoverGirl primarily provides a wide variety of consumer-grade cosmetics.

The Girl With The Twisted Catchphrase

The thirty-six semi-finalists went through interviews with Jay Manuel, Tyra Banks, and J. Alexander. The group was later cut down to twenty. Those twenty went on to participate in a fashion show where they were judged by J. Alexander and Jay Manuel and later had a one-on-on with Tyra. The remaining twenty were cut down to thirteen.

Jay Manuel Canadian make-up artist

Jay Manuel is an American-born Canadian TV host, Creative Director and Make-up Artist. He is most recognizable as the former Creative Director on the popular reality television show America's Next Top Model. Manuel also was featured as the host of Canada's Next Top Model.

The Girls Become Superheroes

The thirteen finalists walked in a fashion show at an event for Life & Style magazine, where they had to do their own hair and makeup. The models were later suspended in the air for a photo shoot in which they had to portray superheroes. Nik received best picture at judging. Ashley and Sarah landed in the bottom two, and Ashley was eliminated from the competition.

Life & Style, officially Life & Style Weekly, is an American celebrity magazine, launched in 2004 by the Bauer publishing conglomerate. American Media, Inc. acquired Bauer's US celebrity magazines in 2018.

Robin Leach British journalist

Robin Douglas Leach was an English entertainment reporter and writer from London. Beginning his career as a print journalist, first in England and then in the United States, he became best known for hosting the television series Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous from 1984 to 1995. The show focused on profiling well-known celebrities and their lavish homes, cars and other materialistic details. His voice is often parodied by other actors with his signature phrase, "champagne wishes and caviar dreams."

Nate Dogg American rapper and actor

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, known professionally as Nate Dogg, was an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. Hale began his career as a member of the California rap trio 213, alongside his longtime friend Warren G and cousin Snoop Dogg. He eventually pursued a solo career, and released three solo albums, G-Funk Classics, Vol. 1 & 2 in 1998, Music & Me in 2001, and Nate Dogg as a bootlegged album in 2003 and on CD in 2014.

The Girl Who Needs A Miracle

The twelve remaining finalists received makeovers and had a photo shoot to show off their new hairstyles. They later competed in a challenge where they had to buy an outfit that fit their new personal style, with the winner being Lisa. The photo shoot had them competing against a fellow finalist in the same outfit and country setting. At elimination, Cassandra received best picture. Diane and Ebony landed in the bottom two, and Ebony was eliminated from the competition.

James St. James is a television personality, author, celebutante, frequent collaborator with Mathu Andersen, and former "Club Kid", a member of the New York City club scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Girl Who Makes A Disclaimer

The eleven remaining finalists had a runway lesson with Miss J. They later took part in a runway competition with designer Sue Wong, which was won by Bre. The models also had a green screen photo shoot where they had to portray fashion victims on a moving runway. Cassandra refused to have her hair cut shorter during the shoot, and decided to leave the competition. At elimination, Jayla received best picture. Kim and Sarah landed in the bottom two, and Sarah was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Gets A Boob Job

The nine remaining finalists took part in an exercise in which they had to determine each other's body flaws. They later participated in a photo shoot challenge where they had to accentuate and work their flaws. Kyle was deemed to be the best performer, winning an outing at a spa with two friends of her choosing. On set, the models had a plastic surgery photo shoot shot by Janice Dickinson. At elimination, Kyle received best photo. Bre and Diane landed in the bottom two, and Diane was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Loves Bubbles And Talks To Plants

First aired October 19, 2005

The eight remaining finalists were introduced to Iman, and later participated in a mock interview challenge in which they had to advertise an organic face mask. As the winner of the challenge, Kyle received the opportunity of hosting a television segment for VH1. On set, the models had to shoot a campaign and commercial for Secret deodorant. They also had an interview for Entertainment Tonight. At elimination Coryn and Nik landed in the bottom two, and Coryn was eliminated from the competition.

The Girls Who Are 1940s Pin-ups

First aired October 26, 2005

The remaining models received a visit from Tyra for a surprise black and white photo shoot, and later participated in an obstacle course challenge followed by a go see interview with representatives from Elle Girl magazine. As the winner of the challenge, Lisa was given the opportunity of being coached by an industry expert. On set the contestants had to pose as 1940's pin-up girls in an ad for Ford Fusion. At elimination, Kim received best picture. Bre and Kyle landed in the bottom two, and Kyle was eliminated from the competition.

The Girl Who Wants To Step On The Pretty Flower

This episode was an overview of the past seven episodes of the cycle which featured previously unseen footage.

The Girl Whose Boyfriend Is Cheating On Her

First aired November 9, 2005

The six remaining finalists took part in a challenge which involved creating a presentation for a go-see to star in a guest role on Veronica Mars . Kim was chosen as the best overall performer. At the photo shoot, the models had to pose with the cast of MTV's Wildboyz . At elimination, Bre received best photo. Jayla and Nicole landed in the bottom two, but were both allowed to remain in the competition, as Tyra revealed that all six contestants would be traveling to London for the remainder of the competition.

The Girl Who Talks Behind Everyone's Back

First aired November 16, 2005

The six finalists were on their way to London, England when they participated in a challenge where they got passport photos taken, with the winner being Bre. The photoshoot took place in a phone booth where they posed nude together covering themselves with tabloids. The judging saw Lisa become the eighth model eliminated.

The Girl Who Retaliates

First aired November 23, 2005

The five finalists participated in a competition in which they had to hold a poses like a statue, with the winner being Nik. They shot a campaign for Olay Quench where they recreated classic art with a modern twist. The judging saw Kim become the ninth model eliminated.

The Girl Who Takes A Pill

First aired November 30, 2005

The four finalists participated in a competition where they had to go to four go-sees and dress to fit each designers style, with the winner being Nik. The photoshoot was Bollywood inspired. The judging saw Jayla become the tenth model eliminated.

The Girl Who Is On The Cover

First aired December 7, 2005

The final three contestants, Nik Pace, Nicole Linkletter, and Bre Scullark, shot photographs and a commercial for Cover Girl. Bre became the eleventh finalist to be eliminated at panel. Nik and Nicole did their photo shoot for Elle Girl magazine and walked in a runway show for Gharani Strok. The final judging saw Nicole crowned America's Next Top Model.
