The American Wrestling Affiliates, alternately referred to as The AWA or The REAL AWA, is a governing body for six independent wrestling promotions in the eastern United States and New Brunswick Canada. It was created in April 2008 when former AWA Superstars of Wrestling member promotions Mountaineer Wrestling Association and APEX Wrestling of West Virginia broke away to form a new AWA. Soon afterwards, three more promotions joined: World Star Wrestling (WSW) of Connecticut, the North Atlantic Wrestling Association (NAWA) of Maine, and Championship Wrestling of Tennessee. [1] Innovative Hybrid Wrestling (IHW), based in New Brunswick, also joined within a month of the American Wrestling Affiliates initial formation. [2]

Wrestling Superstars - Live! was a governing body for a group of independent professional wrestling promotions and sanctioned various championships. It was founded in 1996 by Dale Gagne and Jonnie Stewart.

Title history

On November 1, 2008, in Kingsport, TN, "The Disciple" Brian Logan was defeated by Tony "The Dragon" Givens to become the new AWA World Heavyweight Champion. Logan regained the title in West Virginia in a steel cage match three weeks later and held it until May 30, 2009 where he was defeated by "The Best of the Best" Robbie Cassidy.

The American Wrestling Affiliates World Tag Team Championship was created when the organization was originally formed in April 2008. However, the American Wrestling Affiliates National Heavyweight Championship and Shooting Star Championship both have a rich history in the South-Eastern United States. [3]

The American Wrestling Affiliates originally folded in 2009 as most of its former promotions have either ceased operations or are no longer affiliated with one another and it has largely been superseded by the Championship Wrestling Alliance.

In early 2016, Ring 99, a Boston based organization of wrestlers and people associated with wrestling, announced plans to revive the AWA. Sports Entertainment Xplosion from New York and Toxic Wrestling from New England have been named the first two territories for the new AWA. On November 25, 2016, Sports Entertainment Xplosion announced that they have closed their doors but on December 10th, Sports Entertainment Xplosion announced that they will be resuming operations on December 17.

New England Place

New England is a geographical region composed of six states of the northeastern United States: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. It is bordered by the state of New York to the west and by the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec to the northeast and north, respectively. The Atlantic Ocean is to the east and southeast, and Long Island Sound is to the south. Boston is New England's largest city as well as the capital of Massachusetts. The largest metropolitan area is Greater Boston with nearly a third of the entire region's population, which also includes Worcester, Massachusetts, Manchester, New Hampshire, and Providence, Rhode Island.

West Virginia is a state located in the Appalachian region in the Southern United States and is also considered to be a part of the Middle Atlantic States. It is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north, Maryland to the east and northeast, Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, and Ohio to the northwest. West Virginia is the 41st largest state by area, and is ranked 38th in population. The capital and largest city is Charleston.

Ohio State of the United States of America

Ohio is a Midwestern state in the Great Lakes region of the United States. Of the fifty states, it is the 34th largest by area, the seventh most populous, and the tenth most densely populated. The state's capital and largest city is Columbus.

Tennessee State of the United States of America

Tennessee is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. Tennessee is the 36th largest and the 16th most populous of the 50 United States. Tennessee is bordered by Kentucky to the north, Virginia to the northeast, North Carolina to the east, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi to the south, Arkansas to the west, and Missouri to the northwest. The Appalachian Mountains dominate the eastern part of the state, and the Mississippi River forms the state's western border. Nashville is the state's capital and largest city, with a 2017 population of 667,560. Tennessee's second largest city is Memphis, which had a population of 652,236 in 2017.
