YP Midwest Publishing LLC., originally Ameritech Publishing, Inc., was formed in 1983 during the Bell System Divestiture. It combined the former directory operations of Illinois Bell, Indiana Bell, Michigan Bell, Ohio Bell and Wisconsin Telephone. Ameritech Publishing published telephone directories in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Directories in Illinois were made in a joint venture with R. H. Donnelley.

Illinois Bell

Illinois Bell Telephone Company is the Bell Operating Company serving Illinois. It is owned by AT&T through AT&T Teleholdings, formerly Ameritech.

Indiana Bell

Indiana Bell Telephone Company, Incorporated, is the Bell Operating Company serving Indiana. It is an indirect subsidiary of AT&T Inc., owned by AT&T Teleholdings.

Michigan Bell

Michigan Bell is the subsidiary of AT&T serving the state of Michigan. Following the Bell System divestiture on January 8, 1984, the company became a subsidiary of Ameritech, the Regional Bell operating company that served the midwestern United States. Ameritech was subsequently acquired by SBC Communications, which later changed its name to AT&T.

Prior to brand standardization by SBC Communications, Ameritech directories were published under the PagesPlus brand.

Ameritech Publishing's operations in Illinois and northwest Indiana were placed in a partnership with R. H. Donnelley, called DonTech, in 1999.

Following brand standardization since 2002, Ameritech Publishing, the company, is currently known as Ameritech Publishing, Inc. d/b/a AT&T Advertising & Publishing.

Spinoff

In 2012, Ameritech Publishing (along with the rest of AT&T Advertising Solutions) was spun off into YP Holdings. Ameritech Publishing was then renamed YP Midwest Publishing LLC.

YP Holdings

YP Holdings, now a wholly owned subsidiary of DexYP, is the American parent company for YP LLC. Its products include printed telephone directories, yp.com and YP app. YP offers a wide range of marketing solutions from building online presence to promoting local and national businesses through local search, display ads and direct marketing. On July 31, 2012, YP was included in PaidContent50's list of "the world's most successful digital media companies" based on 2011 digital ad revenue.

Ameritech Mobile Communications, LLC was the first company in the United States to provide cellular mobile phone service to the general public. Cell service became publicly available in Chicago on October 13, 1983. The company was a division of Ameritech which, as of January 1, 1984, was the holding company of Illinois Bell, Michigan Bell, Wisconsin Bell, Ohio Bell, and Indiana Bell, which provides landline service to the Great Lakes region. From around 1986, Cincinnati Bell held a 45% stake in the company. Originally named Ameritech Mobile Communications, it later became known as Ameritech Cellular.

Wisconsin Bell

Wisconsin Bell, Inc. is the name of the Bell Operating Company serving Wisconsin. It is owned by AT&T through AT&T Teleholdings, originally known as Ameritech.

YP Western Directory LLC, formerly Pacific Bell Directory, was the advertising and publishing division of the Pacific Telesis Group. PBD Holdings held Pacific Bell Directory under its umbrella, who published directories in both Nevada and California.

YP Texas Region Yellow Pages LLC is a division of YP Holdings that publishes telephone directories to Southwestern Bell customers for AT&T.

SBC Long Distance LLC is a long distance telephone company owned by AT&T that does business as AT&T Long Distance. SBC Long Distance competes with other long distance providers who provide service within some of the Bell Operating Company service boundaries of AT&T. SBC Long Distance is a separate subsidiary than AT&T Communications, the incumbent long distance carrier for most of the country acquired in the SBC merger with AT&T.

BellSouth Advertising & Publishing

YP Southeast Advertising & Publishing LLC, originally BellSouth Advertising & Publishing Corporation, or "BAPCO", publishes telephone directories for AT&T customers served by BellSouth Telecommunications. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T.

YP Connecticut Information Services LLC, originally SNET Information Services, Inc., was the directory publishing arm of Southern New England Telecommunications. It is currently owned by YP Holdings and publishes telephone directories for Southern New England Telephone customers under the YP Real Yellow Pages name.

Richard C. Notebaert is the former Chairman and CEO of Qwest, Tellabs and Ameritech. He was credited for saving Qwest from bankruptcy, and making Ameritech the most successful "Baby Bell".

Ameritech Interactive Media Services, Inc. was a subsidiary of AT&T that provides AT&T Yahoo!-branded Internet services to AT&T customers in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
